At least two high-end Nikon cameras and at least two lenses expected by the end of 2018

For 2018 Nikon is rumored to announce at least two high-end/professional grade cameras and at least two lenses. I assume that at least one of those cameras will be mirrorless. Nikon already has three new cameras that have been registered for a while with various government agencies but are not yet officially announced. A replacement for the Nikon Coolpix P900 camera is also long overdue.

Two new Nikkor lenses are rumored so far: 600mm f/5.6 PF and 60mm macro.

In the past 12 months, Nikon has announced only one camera – the D850 (the Nikon D7500 was announced on April 12th, 2017).

As a result of reviewing NMNV’s future cash flow in the aforementioned process, the fair value of the investment in NMNV has declined, and 10,343 million yen of the loss on valuation of the investment in subsidiaries is expected to be recorded as an extraordinary loss based on Japanese GAAP. (NMNV=Nikon Metrology NV)

For those of us without a financial background, Dpreview has a better description of what is going on:

Nikon is developing a new mirrorless camera at a “rapid pace”, getting close to the official announcement

The Japanese website SankeiBiz published an article on the current state of the camera industry. There was also a paragraph on Nikon, specifically on their upcoming mirrorless camera:

  • Nikon is developing a new mirrorless camera at a “rapid pace”.
  • Nikon’s new mirrorless camera will be released in the current fiscal year (Nikon’s fiscal year will end in March 2019).
  • There is a hint that the new Nikon mirrorless camera will be shown “at a large-scale overseas exhibition” – I assume this is the 2018 Photokina show in September.
