Update: the rumored Nikon Z5II camera could be announced in April

A quick update on my previous posts: Camerainsider reports that the rumored Nikon Z5II camera will be announced in April. On March 6th, I reported that the Z5II is expected around May:

“The Nikon Z5II camera is rumored/expected to be announced around May this year. Of course, the release timeframe can change, but this is what I have for now.”

We do not have any detailed specifications yet, but the new Nikon Z5II camera will be based on the Nikon Zf and will have some tech from the Nikon Z6III.

Here is an updated list of “What to expect next from Nikon“:

  • Nikon Z7III: still a possibility, but not anytime soon
  • Nikon Z30II and Zfc replacement: maybe in 2026

Unconfirmed lenses:

Made-up upcoming camera models, a.k.a. clickbait rumors (I am sure I missed a few – there is a new one every week):

  • Nikon Z1: nope
  • Nikon Z4: nope
  • Nikon Z80: nope
  • Nikon Z90: nope
  • Nikon ZfR: nope
  • Nikon Zh: nope
  • Nikon ZL: nope
  • Nikon Zx: nope
  • Nikon Zxx: nope

Obviously, at some point we will get the following Nikon cameras, but not anytime soon:

  • Nikon Z8II: years away
  • Nikon Z7III: maybe one day, but not soon
  • Nikon Z30II: should come at some point, the the Z30 is almost 3 years old

Nikon Zx/Zxx is used to mark prototype Nikon cameras for testing, and it is not a real name for a new model. For example, this is a Z6 camera distributed for testing before the official announcement years ago:
