New firmware updates for the Nikon Z7 II, Z6 II and Z5 cameras released

Nikon just released new firmware updates for the Z5, Z6 II, and Z7 II mirrorless cameras with a single fix:

  • Addressed an issue that would in rare circumstances result in unusually loud noises from the aperture mechanism when the zoom or focus rings on F mount lenses connected via an FTZ mount adapter were rotated.

Nikon Z6II and Z7II firmware updates with new real-time tracking rumored to be released in September

A while back I mentioned in a blog post about new upcoming Nikon Z6II and Z7II firmware updates. The rumored updates are expected to be out in September and will introduce new real-time tracking – this will be a simpler version of the real-time tracking system that will be implemented in the Nikon Z9.

I don’t have all the details, but Nikon’s real-time tracking should be similar (but better) to their 3D tracking available in high-end DSLR cameras. As far as I know, Sony is the only company today that offers real-time tracking in some of their models like the a6400 and a9 (please correct me in the comments section if I am wrong – I do not really follow Sony that closely). Here are some Sony videos explaining how real-time tracking works:

→ The new Nikon Z fc is really hot in Hong Kong – see this DCFever article (translated):

The queue of buying the new Z fc, according to the news, is “not short”. The Nikon Z9 camera is scheduled to be tested by multiple photographers in August

The Nikon Z9 camera will be tested by several different photographers in August. Expect to see surfing photos and videos from Mexico and more… This timeline matches with the expected/rumored release in November>December. Once the Z9 is sent out for testing, we will get another wave of leaks and rumors. Stay tuned.
