Interesting: Atomos reacts extremely positively to the Nikon acquisition of RED

Atomos had an interesting (unusual?) official reaction to Nikon’s acquisition of RED (at least I think so) – they were “hailing it as great news for the industry”. Atomos already has a history of cooperating with both Nikon and RED. The co-founder of Atomos Jeromy Young said this in the official press release:

“I’m absolutely convinced that this new move will result in an explosion of innovation.”

“NAB will be an extremely exciting event this year. Of course, we hope to play a small part in generating that excitement too.”

I did not see another major company praise the acquisition like that. The 2024 NAB show was mentioned again – I already reported that some kind of a Nikon/RED-related announcement could happen next month. Is there something coming between Nikon, RED, and Atomos? I don’t know – what do you think?

Here are some rumors on what to expect from the Nikon acquisition of RED

Here are some rumors on what to expect from the recent Nikon acquisition of RED:

  • Future Nikon sensors will be co-developed with RED and mass-produced for lower prices.
  • Nikon will start making cinema lenses for Z mount with T stops – I assume the next RED camera will be with Z-mount.
  • Nikon will slowly introduce new RED formats and video recording options to Nikon cameras.
  • The Nikon Z6III camera announcement may have something to do with the RED acquisition.
  • We should expect some kind of a Nikon/RED announcement at the 2024 NAB show next month (maybe the Z6III?).
  • Nikon N-RAW will become RED RAW. Adobe just mentioned online that they will no longer make upgrades to Nikon N-RAW because it will be replaced (see the Ado\be developer’s pinned post – click for larger view):
