Quick review of the Meike 55mm f/1.4 AF APS-C lens for Nikon Z-mount

Meike 55mm f/1.4 AF APS-C lens for Nikon Z-mount review by John Hall (product page):

This lens is designed for APS-C cameras or full-frame cameras in APS-C mode. I used it with a Z50 for these images. The specs for this lens look good. What matters more to me is performance, the final image I get. I got good images with this lens.

It arrived well-packed in foam inside a box, with a lens hood, lens caps, and a couple of sheets of documentation. It looks and feels well-made. The focus ring and the aperture ring are smooth, and the aperture ring has detents so you can feel the stops without looking. There are nine aperture blades for incredible bokeh at wide-open settings.

This lens is one of the new Meike lenses that feature autofocus. The autofocus is fast and accurate. This lens also features an electronic aperture. Both focus and aperture can easily be set with the push of a button, or set manually if you prefer. There is a USB port for firmware updates.

The 55mm length is equivalent to about 82mm on an APS-C sensor which makes a great lens for portraits. It is sharp and fast. I like macros and closeups. The half-meter minimum focus is good for closeups. For macros, I have a set of Meike extension rings that work great with this lens. I’ve had this lens with rings on my camera for a week and I’m not ready to change yet. For the price, this is a good deal.
