Slow news day... but you can check out this giant, Nikkor lens pendant lamp made out of white cedar wood by Monoculo Design Studio. It can be yours for €500 ($690). Here is the description and few additional images:

Mónoculo Design Studio presents this original lamp which is a replica of a reflex camera lens. Carefully handmade with high quality materials and fine terminations, the lens hood can be reverse mounted or removed. The lamp is made of white cedar wood and has a water-based varnish and beeswax finish on it. Additionally, its design is 100% eco-friendly. On the top it has a ceiling frame with a stainless steel cable and a red wrapped power cord.

    what a “bright” idea!

  • Mato34

    Filter size?

  • Jeremy

17mm and focused at infinity? That is not how I use my 14-24.

  • nawab

$690 joke! Wish there were some D8000/D400 rumors

    • neversink

If it is handmade and carved, that is not a bad price…..

  • Spy Black

That’s pretty cool. Cheaper than the real thing too ;-)

  • DMM

This is so much cooler than Nikon lens coffee mugs. I would totally buy one for my room.

I have to admit that I am highly tempted to get one of these.

    • MJr

      There is, only one.

  • Herman

Do you think that we will get this in a f1.4?

Logic tells me that having a bigger aperture, will result in letting “in” (or out in this case?) more light, making it more efficient. With global warming and going green, the bigger aperture might have big appeal!

  • Alex

    MUST…. HAVE….!!!!!

  • apollo

    14-24 with separate hood?

Very nice product, shame that it costs so much, I would’ve bought it!

  • the_sardonic_iconic

GUYS IT’S A LENS FOR AN UPCOMING NIKON LARGE FORMAT DIGITAL SPREAD THE WORD

  • shawn

    Too much flare/coma.

    Nice creation and innovative.

  • AlphaTed

Can I use a TC on it?

    • tertius_decimus

Why needed? This is wide angle lamp.

  • Sam

OOH! that will look sweet on the new Hasselblad-Sony NEX-7

  • lorenzo

Nikon? That’s the Canon color :-)

    • Spy Black

      Canon has wood-colored lenses?

      • lorenzo

They don’t? Perhaps maybe that “junk” (sorry Canonists) is white?

If it was a Nikon it should have been black …. or pink?

I have a 70-200 f/2.8 coffee mug, in scale but it matches the real lens (B&H) :-)

    Haha! this is insanely smart!

  • Josh

    Coolest lamp ever!

  • Nilrem

    Where’s the camera?

  • spicynujac

Like it. I might buy one if it didn’t cost as much as a real lens!

  • joe_reitz

if they could figure out a way to mass produce these and bring the pricepoint down to ~$50, they’d sell a TON of these, IMO

  • Arthur

Another addition to Nikon’s Creative Lighting System

  • Kenneth$

The 14-24 doesnt have a detachable lens hood, But still a cool lamp.

  • benjamin

it has a bulbous front element too!

  • Aldo

I would fill my camera store with these. If i had one

  • tertius_decimus

    Brilliant idea. Funny! :D

  • A. Lurker

Just keep telling yourself, Leica is a braaaand, and Nikon is not. Jeez

  • Funduro

Beautiful workmanship. I guarantee the maker is not a Canon fanboy.

  • cppguy16

    It’s a backside-illuminated lens.

  • LaurentProulx

I certainly want one … what is the guide number ? :P

  • mrterrabyte

I can’t remember the hood being removable on my 14 – 24…or is that an aberration?

  • Ronan

Why red cord? Make it yellow so it goes with Nikon colors…

Somebody ought to tell them it needs to be black!

  • casey

    Does it have VRII?

  • roy

  • Bill

Ladies and gentlemen, the XX format camera will be announced soon.

Couldn’t they put the lamp holder on a helical thread inside, so it can adjust the light spread between 114 degrees (14mm) to 84 degrees (24mm) and make the outer ring rotatable? Might squeak a bit – wood on wood, but that would be cool.

  • whmitty

    I’m beside myself with anticipation.

  • Phil

That’s uglier than any Canon lense I’ve ever seen before. It’s obscene in fact. Admin, delete this thread please.

Is there an adaptor so I can use it on a Nikon 1? I guess this is in a new category – BeyondFX.

  • Nelson

Does it have white balance control? LOL
