      and so is the D300s

Nice work Admin…this has been the longest wait I can remember for a replacement.

Has anything been said about the launch of the D800E, will it be announced at the same time and be available at the same time as the D800?

  • Nicholas Wojciak

Any chance the camera will have a large Megapixel and use pixel binding to capture high iso lower res. images? something like 36mp or switch to 9mp 4 grid pixel binding?

Bleah, will this camera have a d80-d7000 size?? it looks really petite…

    • Doug

It’s not ALL about size is it?

      • cpm5280

Depends on whether you know what to do with it, doesn’t it?

  • Doug

Stop with this, this is about the release date of the rumoured d900, 72mp with APS-C sensor without the AA. Please let me know when it arrives, im going now to my sad corner to cry until 2015.

I swear, the ISO button needs to be on the right hand side.

At this point not having swapped the Mode for the ISO button doesn’t make sense…

Im curious, if the RAW files are locked at 36MP only, what would be the best wotkflow, as the file sizes will be massive. I know on other dual memory card Nikons you can store JPG’s on one and RAW’s on the other. Does anyone know if Lighroom has the ability to import the JPGs, let us go through and pick out the ones we want, and then import the equivalent RAW files? Makes more sense than bringing in all my RAW’s at 100meg+ at a time. Unless it makes you alot more selective of that you shoot, which you shouldnt have to think about.

Would just make sense bring in downsized 16mp jpgs and then just selecting the ones you one to import and full quality/res RAW.

I can remember them fondly, all those early comments on the 1st pics, months ago:

“totally fake! the D800 label isn’t right! The door covers are wrong! The texture’s been photoshopped! The red swoosh thing is clearly fake!”

Its going to be interesting now. For many, it, at least at first sight, seems to be too many MP.

However, lets look at the likely facts (D800 versus D700 debate)

    1. Its not only the difference in MP. There are a lot of new features with off course great video, if you like that, as an addition.

    2. In theory same ISO or better than D7000. Based on reviews D7000 is around 1 stop worse than D700 which is one stop worse than D3s and 2 (according to Joe Mcnally) stop worse than D4.

    3. Changing resolutions, according to different sources on the internet, from the 36 MP to 12 MP could improve the perceived ISO noise with 1 to 1.5 stop.

So you have in, worst case scenario, a D800 with 12 MP files like D700 or, best case scenario, with better than D7000 ISO ability and more improvement in downsizing the file, a D3s ISO level. Its doesn’t look that bad especially with all the other improvements. As a prime lens shooter, I really like the cropping and 15 MP dx mode.

I’m still not sure what to do. As many others I find 24 MP the sweet spot but looking forward to see the images etc.

At least the discussion will get even more heated in the coming weeks!

Is there going to be a new 24-120mm because the aperature is 1:4 g, no 3.5-5.6, or f4
