this is what I feel comfortable with for this release – of course there are many other rumors, but I don’t think they will happen. I could be wrong. The bottom line is – I don’t think we will see a new DSLR and the EVIL system will be for Photokina.

But I expect this year (Q1, Q2?) Nikon will come with such a new camera design that all the Coolpixes doesn’t matter anymore. The two things wont go together in one show.

One thing that I have to admit to is that those CoolPixs come in CoolColors making them Cool like in Hot. They are really bad like in really good.
However, we must all agree that Nikon operates on a continuim – from a beginning to whatever. Moreover, they really pi$$ me off!

Good news for me, though. No 24mm f/1.4 – Good! Pushes me closer to the Tokina 11-16. It is not that they are compatible, but limited amount of money, on my end. One or the other, but not both.
Go get the 11-16 you cant go wrong..and we dont even know what the 24 1.4 will bring to the table as in sharpness etc…11-16mm we know what it can do …

Tim, I currently own the D80 which can not shoot ISO 400 without NOISE!!!!!! My wife and I just paid off our house and I am going to do a major upgrade to my camera gear. I do not even want to go on any trips with this current gear because the final images just makes me sick. I am not buying the D700 when the replacement is SO close to being release. We hope!!!!

Build that into your marketing plans now Nikon! We all know that the best place to do market research is to take note of what is said by anonymous whack-jobs in the most ludicrous comments in the threads on rumor sites.
If people think that Nikon is too slow in the DLSR space, take a look at Canon’s pro-Camcorder offerings and compare/contrast to the consumer Vixia line. For $10,000 you can buy a TAPE BASED camera – bwwaahhahahaha. The whole line has been obsolete trash for over two years now and they probably won’t even think about a change for another couple of years. That despite the fact that Compact Flash drives that are faster than tape have been readily available for years.
Canon isn’t going to do anything to update that line because they know that the whole sector is going to be obliterated by EVIL type combo cameras. So in the meantime the $500 Vixia camera sold at Costco is actually the better buy.
PHB, do you feel better now putting others down? Does it make you feel superior, stronger, smarter? For me as an amature photographer who is going from a D80 and Tamron lens to Pro level gear spending $10,000 is a lot of money for a hobby. I do not expect Nikon to be reading these post, I am just excited as a child on Christmas morming to see what is coming….

I considered the 10-24 as well but after some research found that there’s quite a lot of sample variation, and the samples I’ve seen weren’t so good. Perhaps I was just unlucky…
Plus flare, distortion etc.
But 12-24 is expensive I know….

Isnt the main problem, that the 10-24 is already about 20% cheaper than the 12-24? So, isnt that even more reason to go with the 10-24 (when you find a good sample…)

Fanboys have been saying that before all of Nikon’s major generation launches.
We will not see anything really exciting until D4/D4x/Dxxx series, but then it will be revolutionary. Mark my words.
That shift won’t occur until 2011, so in the meantime we’ll only see tweak upgrades like the D700x/D900 and a D3Xs the upcoming year. Not much, but sufficient, since most of you are forgetting that Nikon still has the leading FX studio camera AND the leading FX press/sports camera.
Who cares about these Coolpix camera’s. We are waiting for serious primers and a D700 replacement (or a D4 something). Nikon keeps being anoyingly slow updating their stuff. Probably to squeze out every possible penny out of their old crap ….

a D700 replacement would be fantastic as i have a D3 and im looking for a second camera im seriously considering the 300s if no update comes along , so a D800 with 21mp iso range of the d3 hd video all wrapped up in a pro body as i hate having to buy those add-ons i.e battery grip, id love a D3s but the price will have to drop at least £500 before i sweat about 1.
i’ll sell the house and rent a small flat if the D3Xs with improved iso & HD video 1080 is announced ! a no dream on

Jason, we will see D700X or D700S this year, probably the D700S (at Photokina) as Nikon will not want to canabalize the D3X sales. Then Nikon will anounce D4 in the 2012 summer, followed by a D800X or D900. We probably won’t see 21MP in the smaller bodies for a long time, you will most likely see 18MP first. I too want a High ISO camera, at least two stops better in quality than my D3.

pls nikon bring out a new pro camera for sports – tested the d3 against the mark IV – more pixels plus the crop means for pics shoot on the other side of the pitch: a much better quality for canon …. a d3x as fast and as low noisy like the d3 would help all the sportsshooters … its a world cup year!

I really hope Nikon’s next DSLR announcement is sporting something more then a 12MP sensor, even the Coolpixes are using these now.
Do you really believe that a 14 mp P&S camera has better image quality than EITHER a 12 mp DX or FX DSLR? Do you? Really? If you do, then you are wasting your money on DSLRs. If you don’t, then you’ve just wasted energy on typing such dribble. Who cares if P&S get to 20mp? A D2x will still outperform it.

), because every current model has it’s own strengths and weaknesses, like: D300s photos are great – but no 1080P, no fullframe, low ISO; D700 great camera also – but no film at all; D3s… expensive, only 720P, no variable framerates for video… etc.etc. I have to finish a HD-documentary until end of june… and if there was a Fullframe, 15-25MP, 1080P, 24-30fps, AF-S for video, high-ISO-Camera (D700xs, D800,D900)… damn! I bet, the whole corporate-communications-film-folks wouldt go crazy (me included!). The Movie-Mode in DSLRs is such a great revolution for all the DOPs who can’t afford a Hollywood-style-film-camera like RED ONE or HDCAM SRs like Arri or Sony… 35mm-Filmstyle DOF for under 10 K… everyone is waiting for the first DSLR that doesn’t have all these AF/framerate/etc-bugs… and most of them go Canon, because of the lousy 5D MK II… 
Nikon is loosing a lot of market share here. (Btw… with REDs Scarlet, there’s maybe another strong competitor for Nikon and Canon… but it’s compatible with Nikon lenses..!)

Seriously my firends – 17-35mm f2.8 is perfectly good at f4 and fairly small – VR in this range is not too useful. Do you really think the new 16-35mm, if real, will cost under $1000 that you can get a used 17-35 for?
24mm would be nice, but also honestly very few people actuially need it and would pay $2000 for it. Those who do probably already own the canon one.

Yes, but they don’t ‘need’ the f3.5 aperture. You can also find 24mm on other lenses, but not with that nice fat, light-swallowing hole in them.

I know you can get it on other lenses too, but also as sharp as the PC-E (I though these were the sharpest primes)?
The point is: it’ll lighter, just that, not an IQ issue. Price will be ok, around 1,000USD, like the 12-24 f/4. The extra 1mm below, although not a big difference, is also welcome. This could be a very versatile WA zoom for those who take long hikes or walk while shooting (landscapers for example, or street photogs).
You know what, I just realised that my D300 is the best camera ever. Coupled with 70-200mm VR it’s just amazing. DX format rules. Okay so there is no high ISO, but so what? It makes excellent images, 12mp is more than enough. I even like it more than D300s. D300 all the way!!!!! F&&k D900 or whatever – it will never happen anyway.

I’ll give a thumbs up to that! But remember… not EVERYBODY needs to shoot at ISO 126,000,000 to do handheld shots in pitch black. Good ISO 200-1600 is just fine for many of us.
“Good ISO 200-1600 is just fine for many of us.” — Not me! Let’s see, numerous f/1.2 prime lenses with a D700 or just one good zoom 24-135mm f/4 and a camera (D5S) capable of low noise at 25,600 ISO. If I don’t need the razor thin DOF with f/1.2 in numerous primes at many focal lengths, I would rather just cary a capable zoom and maybe one or two fast primes for shooting in the dark.
I use D300 1 yr+ now, don’t need 300s, would love a cheaper FF. I use AF28 f/2.8, AFS35 f/1.8, AF50 f/1.4, AF85 f/1.8 + SP90 macro most of the time. Would like the 28 f/2.8 replaced with newer version. (It is bad at night). Only used the 70-300VR 2 or 3 times last year, didn’t use the 55-200, sometimes use the 16-85VR or Sigma 18-50 f/2.8. The camera with me ALL the time is my cellphone. Would love to have nikkor lens & EXPEED on it!

I don’t know, maybe because it’s a discontinued classic, that will be always remembered as the best Nikon DX camera! I know that D300s is exactly the same, but .. it isn’t somehow. Movie mode doesn’t help it either. D300 is like the first love – forever special
Ha ha realy funny NR Admin we have to wait but Nikon also that we want to spend our money on 100-500 vr 3 or 200-400vr updated and others so i think i buy as soon as possible a D3s with later the updated d700 and pro lenses to come sooner or later
