• NIKON INSTANT REBATES NOW AVAILABLE TILL MARCH 27th, 2010

Nikon Coolpix S3000 and Coolpix S8000 will also be announced

In addition to the P100 and L110, Nikon will also announce Coolpix S3000 and Coolpix S8000 cameras. I am still expecting more details in the next few days.

I am sorry I keep bringing up compact cameras, but I think this is what the February 3rd announcement will be about. I now strongly believe that there will be another announcement in the week after February 3rd (or maybe the week before?) that will bring the good stuff. I do not think the February 3rd date will be for Coolpix cameras and DSLRs/lenses at the same time. Last year, Nikon first announced the D300s and D3000 (July 30th) and the week after (August 4th) four Coolpix cameras were released.

Here is the reason why we get the Coolpix first :
Niknon annouce the coolpix first, because when the DSLR will be announced the week after, there will be a special deal: buy one Nikon DSLR and get a Coolpix for free !
Thank you Nikon ! We still love you !

Well, Thom DID say 1st 2 weeks, but the waiting is driving me NUTS!

As long as we get a 80-400 replacement, I’ll be happy. VR II, yes; AF-S, a must; Nane would be nice but not required–and does Nikon even put Nano on a prosumer lens?

I am beginning to wonder if we will see a replacement 80-400, as it will probably be at least £1,500 and pretty soon it will be possible to buy a 70-200 at £1,600 and a TC20III for under £400.

Yes, but you will lose still sharpness an 80-400 could bring. Plus, you will have 80mm in the short end and a wider aperture if needed ;-)

Why oh why can’t Nikon figure out how to name a bloody camera? These new model names makes no sense. I bet the new DSLRs are going to be just as screwed up. With the exception of the rebels (not applicable in europe) Canon does have that down.

As long the next DSLR look like what I want (and need) I don’t care if they call it littlepinkpig or D799999 !

Not to mention that in Japan the Canon EOS 350/400/450/500D are named “Kiss X1/X2″.

“Oh my Dear, why don’t you put this 70-200 on your Kiss?”

      Lovely isn’t it? :D

        mmmmh

the next Nikon could be the “Pussy 700s”.
I don’t think this naming would be a success… LOL

Honda already tried that with Honda Jazz in Sweden. It had to change name to Jazz after they discovered what the original name was in Sweden. (Jazz is called Fit in some parts of the world and was orginaly called something a little longer. )

I REALLY want a replacement for the P line of cameras. It would suck for me to have to break down (like all my friends) and buy a G11 to keep in my bag. Come on Nikon, forget the video as well and give me a compact camera with RAW and some pro features so Canon does not get my money.

any word on the s8000 specs? a good competitor to the g11 would be a nice announcement for me. i just don’t see how i can invest in a micro 4/3 camera and a whole new set of lenses but want better quality than your mini sensor point and shoot gives you

    Posted January 19, 2010 at 9:05 pm | Permalink

i am actually interested in the coolpix line, since i feel my d700 has a long lifespan, like the canon g11/s90, nikon should really release a good compact camera. or i just have to be a sucker and buy the canons :P hahaha

another words, i would like to carry a compact for those times where i would like to be in the picture too and dont want to hand then my d700.

    • Posted January 19, 2010 at 10:02 pm | Permalink

I am envious about your D700, and I am also interested in a compact. (Can’t afford to upgrade my D300). I wish for Nikon to come out with something that looks like P6000 or Panasonic LX3.

I would REALLY love to see Nikkor and ExSpeed on a cellphone.

      • Posted January 20, 2010 at 10:26 am | Permalink

The D700 is the best DSLR I’ve seen, great results, but need more pixels, 18-24MP. (12MP is fine if you don’t go more than 8×10″)

  17. Posted January 19, 2010 at 9:52 pm | Permalink

I am keen on Panasonic LX3 or SE C905 cellphone, for street. But I will hold out and wait 3 months for Nikon. I love square crops & 16:9, and I love Nikon. But can’t afford to upgrade my DSLR.

Thom Hogan did it again: now he also predicts the teleconverters:

He did it again lol :) To base his predictions on the information of others. Whatever Thom says others said as well. I just want my D700X (his prediction) and he predicted it should not come this February in the first place…and now it are the first 2 weeks of February and no D700X! :)

Thom’s crystal ball is a copier :-) A pity Jeff-C has nothing to mention as he did in the past
The 20 MP camera which is mentioned on Nikonians sounds realistic to me.

    Posted January 20, 2010 at 8:11 am | Permalink

after the overwhelming success of the 85/3.5 micro, I expect they would pull out two other genius primes:

    the 60/3.5 micro
    the 35/3.5 micro
the 16/3.5 micro fisheye (this one I’d buy)

all DX, so they are affordable.

    just kidding.

    • WoutK89
      Posted January 20, 2010 at 10:51 am | Permalink

No, they will come up with unusable (not wide, not long, and so on) lengths. 60mm and 35mm are quite usable, but you are right with the micro fisheye :-D
