Nikon D80 – Gone Baby Gone! (updated)

Update: Nikon’s own D80 mini site is also dead – go to this link and click on the Nikon D80 banner. Gone!
Nikon D80 is no longer listed on the Nikon-Europe (UK) site (still listed on the SA site – second image):

Last change to get this good camera on a decent price:
Nikon D40x is also gone, but this is old news.
I am expecting more leaks to start coming in tomorrow from the different Nikon sites around the world.
Stay tuned.

Yeah, but it’s still listed in products section http://www.europe-nikon.com/family/en_GB/categories/broad/317.html

I’m not even sure if it had been in technology section recently (I mean last year or so)…

D40x is listed too, but you can hardly find it now. Basically they are eliminating a whole product line in this technology banner (every other product line is displayed). I will try to find some old cached pages to see if D80 was listed before.

But the domain http://www.nikon-d80.com linked from there is not available anymore!

Hehe, maybe they spent all money on R&D and don’t have any left to pay for domain usage ;)

Was nikon-D80.com own by Nikon Corp?

I think they should keep it at 700USD, it’s still selling very well and many get it over the recent XSi. It’s a different market than the D40/D60. I see here in Brazil many less well-to-do wedding photogs using it as backups to D300.

I don’t know, but all other here http://www.europe-nikon.com/home/en_GB/local_content/broad/412/1.html seem to be by Nikon Corp

You first talked about P6000 replacement with 24 MPs, now Nikon D80s – can you please share your sources? Is this your personal opinion? Thanks.

  12. Posted August 23, 2008 at 5:38 pm | Permalink

D80 is still available here in Poland, and the same is true with stores. But I guess with the release of D90 the price of D80 will drop…

The polish mini site is also dead. You can take a look here http://www.europe-nikon.com/home/pl_PL/homepage/broad/catalog.html and click on the “Ministrona D80″ link lower on the right.

just 1 very, stupid opinion, i should label my post as whta i think should happen, sorry. i was kidding about the 24mp p6000, that would be awful. It will already be bad enough with all those MPs.

No problem, thanks for clarifying. I have not heard anything about another D80.

Any ideas on the video part? will it have a dedicated button? Think of shooting with the 10.5mm fish [awesome] or that sigma 30mm 1.4 in the dark. It’s a good thought. Following in the good name of the d80, it should be a great camera, destroying the XSI. Or so I hope.

They need to cover that price point, and something that can AF more lenses, compete with canon but a slight step below the D90.

you can almost get two xsi for the price of a d90 :)

  22. Greg
    Posted August 24, 2008 at 5:13 am | Permalink

Huh? We don’t even know how much the D90 will cost, but likely it will be between $900 to $1000. That’s not twice as much. It’s about $300 more, and you’d be getting a much nicer camera.

Have you actually held a XSI? It feels like a junky plastic toy compared to something like the D80.

I don’t know, this seems to be much ado about nothing. they just let the domain name expire. The product page is still up. If you go to the nikonusa website, you see that they have a new design – I’d guess it is that the other sites will be transitioning to the new site, so they are letting the off beat ones (the micro sites) just die and not renew.

Not that I don’t think the D90 is coming very soon, of course. I’ve got my credit card in hand, hand on the mouse button, excuse to my wife rehearsed…I’m ready!

it is completely normal to get out the D40x in my opinion as the D60 is a D40x with a couple of features more.

it would be more smart to keep the line like that

D40 (for the very cheap camera because 2 years-old, can be easily found in the classifieds)
D60 (brand new replacing the D40)
    D90
    D300
    D700
    D3
    D3x?

Like the admin said we know the price. Because of that price d90 has nothing to do with xsi. D90 is more in line with the canon d40 or upcoming d50.

  30. Greg

The price with lens doesn’t give you a comparable price point. It’s a new lens and we don’t know the value.
