It’s official – the Carl Zeiss Distagon T* Otus 1,4/55 ZF.2 lens ($3990) is currently the best lens available for Nikon F mount according to DxOMark:

Zeiss today announced the price of their new “best fast 50mm ever” OTUS 55mm f/1.4 APO Distagon T* ZF.2 lens: $3,999 (US). The lens is currently available for pre-order at B&H and Adorama. Some sample images from a pre-production version can be found here and here.
