In the past, Nikon has released new products in December only three times (excluding software and firmware updates):
- Nikon D3x on December 1st 2008
- Nikon D70 on December 3rd, 2003
- Nikon Coolpix 5000 on December 4th, 2001
You can clearly see that the first week of December is Nikon’s preferred time frame. The lack of any rumors and leaks as of today suggests that Nikon is done releasing new products for 2009. The only hope for new lenses in December (based on the rumor from Germany) is now gone (the AF-DC 135mm f/2 will probably still be replaced in 2010).
Here is a list of the new products released by Nikon Imaging in 2009:
- Nikon D3000
- Nikon D5000
- Nikon D300s
- Nikon D3s
- Nikkor 85mm f/3.5 DX
- Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8
- Nikkor 18-200mm VRII DX
- Nikkon 10-24mm DX
- Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 DX
- and a bunch of Coolpix cameras
2 entry level bodies, 2 pro bodies, 4 DX lenses and one full frame lens!
Given also the Holiday season, I do not expect a great amount of rumors in the next month or so. In the mean time I will continue to cover interesting Nikon related topics/news.
