Nikon Imaging Group 1st quarter results analysis by ZoetMB:

(April 1 – June 30, 2023):

  • Revenue: ¥74.4 billion
  • Earnings: ¥15.3 billion
  • Bodies: 220,000 (compared to 200,000 Q1 2022)
  • Lenses: 330,000 (compared to 340,000 Q1 2022)

Full fiscal year projection:

  • Revenue: ¥250 billion (up from 5/11 projection of ¥240 billion and FY 2022 actual of ¥227.1 billion)
  • Earnings: ¥41 billion (up from 5/11 projection of ¥38 billion and (down from) FY 2002 actual of ¥42.2 billion)
  • Bodies: 750,000 (up from 5/11 projection of 700,000 and FY 2022 actual of 700,000)
  • Lenses:  1,200,000 (up from 5/11 projection of 1,150,000 and FY 2022 actual of 1,160,000)

Unit share: (compared to CIPA units of same months)

  • Bodies: 13.9% (Full-year 2022: 12.1%)
  • Lenses: 13.3% (Full-year 2022: 12.3%)
  • Value share (compared to CIPA shipped value of same months): 23.8%

Nikon claims market is:

  • Bodies: 5.8 million (giving Nikon a 12.9% FY2023 unit share based on their projections)
  • Lenses: 9.4 million (giving Nikon a 12.8% FY2023 unit share based on their projections)

Note that Nikon no longer reports any numbers for Compact cameras.
