Nikon, rebates, and tariffs

As of today, I have not heard any rumors about an upcoming Nikon price increase, resulting from the new tariffs proposed by President Trump (Leica, Fuji, Blackmagic have already announced price increasesCanon will follow soon, and I believe Sony will be next). Update: the first Sony price seems to be already here.

Nikon was planning to introduce new rebates this weekend on April 27th, but I am no longer sure if this will happen. The current rebates are very limited (only 26 items, mainly old products):

As I mentioned earlier, Nikon products are manufactured in China, Japan, and Thailand. Here are the expected/proposed tariffs for each of the countries:

  • China: 145% tariff
  • Japan: 24% tariff
  • Thailand: 36% tariff

Obviously, Nikon will never move its camera and lens manufacturing to the US to avoid the tariffs.

Here is the email Service Photo recently sent out to customers:

How will the new Trump tariffs impact Nikon camera and lens imports to the US?
