CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association in Japan) published their latest camera production data (orange: 2024, black: 2023, blue: 2022):
November 2024 CIPA Stats by ZoetMB
(All comparisons to YTD 2023)
Narrative: November 2024
DSLR shipments up 18,000 units over October and up 20.1% over November 2023, but down 17% cumulatively for the year.
Mirrorless shipments down over 90,000 units from October, but up 31% over November 2023 and up 16% cumulatively for the year.
CIPA has predicted 5.89m ILCs, 1.52m compacts and 9.57m lenses for calendar 2024. Based on 2023 shipping patterns, ILC’s could conceivably come in at 6.6m units. (That’s higher than we predicted last month). Lenses are already at 9.52m and should come in at about 10.4 million. That would make 2024 the best year for the industry since pre-pandemic 2019, when 8.46m DSLR and Mirrorless bodies and 14.2m lenses were shipped.
