What happened with the Nikon Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 S-line lens?

The short answer is I don’t know. The Nikon Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 S-line lens was supposed to be announced a long time ago. For some reason, Nikon could not or did not want to release the lens. Over the past few months, I have received different explanations as to what exactly is going on – keep in mind, these are all rumors:

  • Nikon decided to change the design of the lens. That means we may get a lens with a different aperture – maybe f/1.1 or f/1.4.
  • I was told that the main concerns Nikon had were the size and the price of the initially planned Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 S-line lens.
  • There is a very low chance that the new  35mm f/1.2 will be a Plena lens.
  • Some rumors indicate that the 35mmm f/1.2 lens will be announced together or shortly after the Z6 III.

Update – more rumors:

  • It seems that Nikon had issues with one of the lens elements of the Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 lens.
  • Nikon is considering to release also new 35mm f/1.4 and 50mm f/1.4 lenses.

The truth is that I do not have good and reliable information on what is going on with the Nikon Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 S-line lens. If you know more, please contact me annoumiously here. Thanks!
