Just a few bullet points on the Nikon acquisition of RED camera:
- Nobody outside of Japan had a clue about the acquisition (Nikon USA still doesn’t have a press release out).
- RED camera will be a good fit for Mark Roberts Motion Control (MRMC) – a company Nikon acquired in 2016,
- Last year RED sued Nikon for infringing on its video compression patents.
- RED camera with Nikon Z-mount? Canon will not be happy about that.
- RED cameras have been used in many award-winning movies.
- RED has many important patents that can be further adapted by Nikon.
- RED sensor and other tech!
- RED will become a subsidiary of Nikon.
- Price/evaluation and exact terms of the deal were not disclosed.
- RED is based in Foothill Ranch, California and has 220 employees.
- RED was founded in 2005 by Jim Jannard.
