Amazon stopped taking pre-orders, Adorama still is (Nikon 35mm f/1.8G DX)

Amazon stopped taking pre-orders for the new Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX lens. The good news is that now Adorama has it on their website for pre-order:

Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX from Adorama.

I wonder why Amazon stopped taking pre-orders. Did they get so many pre-orders that they had to stop so they can fill those orders before taking any more new ones? Or has the release date been pushed back? Or something else?

Good questions – I would like to know the answers, too.

It seems like Amazon routinely takes far more pre-orders than they can possibly fulfill. We saw the same thing with the D90. Amazon sent our their first shipment and there were still tons of people complaining about being on pre-order. I personally ended up canceling my Amazon pre-order and getting one from B&H. Perhaps they have shut it down before things got out-of-hand. I imagine if pre-order sit too long, people forget. When they are finally fulfilled, Amazon probably gets stuck with too many returns.

Is there no way that the new 35mm can be used on a FX body ?

@Jacob D – yes, the 35mm can be used on an FX body – it will just be cropped to the DX factor!
