Why do we need this blog? (new 2008 AF-S lenses rumor)

Here is why: I need a fix length, wide angle lens for low light pictures. I want to be up-to-date and I want to buy and AF-S lens.
Currently my best option from Nikon is AF-S Micro- NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED which is designed for mainly for macro photography. I can also get the Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM, but we are all Nikoners, right? Here is where the rumor comes handy: several sites report that Nikon will introduce the following lenses this year: AF-S 28mm f/1.4 AF-S 50mm f/1.4 AF-S 85mm f/1.4 Well, if you ask me this makes sense. Here is the current line up of Nikon fix length lenses: AF-S Micro- NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED AF-S VR Micro- NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED AF-S VR NIKKOR 200mm f/2G IF-ED AF-S VR NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G IF-ED AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4D IF-ED AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8G ED VR AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4G ED VR AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4G ED VR What's missing here? If you are the Director of Product Management in Nikon, what would you push for in order to complete your AF-S line? Did I mention that AF-S line will be the future of Nikon lenses? So, I will sit tight and wait.  Now, price is a different subject and the Sigma lens still has some punch there. How much do you think AF-S 28mm f/1.4 will cost? $899? Maybe more?

Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras pricing now available!

The new Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras is already available from Amazon for $499 (you can only pre-order now – shipment on July 10, 2008. I am disappointed from the actual pricing. The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras sells for $399 and I was expecting the 50mm version to be cheaper than the 30mm. Why am I even talking about that? I am trying to guess the price of a potential Nikon AF-S equivalent of those two lenses. Let’s assume a price ration of 2:1 between …

I bet the new 28/1.4 uses an injection molded aspherical element and not a precision ground one like the original did. :( AF-S will also make that lens a *lot* bigger and heavier than the original 28/1.4. Take a look at the Canon 24/1.4L to get a feeling for how big the new 28 will be (assuming it actually exists). :(

    New Zoom – AF-S 50-150 VR II 2.8
Just don’t know if it is FF or DX (looks to me to be DX since it gives 70-210 if you multiply it by 1.5…. ) even on FX it will be great for portrait and general use…

What I really believe is missing in the actual Nikon AF-S prime lens list is a 300 f/4 VR. More than anything else.
