Lexar will continue producing XQD memory cards and will fulfill B&H’s inventory in a few weeks

Lexar just send me a tweet that they will continue producing XQD memory cards and will fulfill B&H’s inventory in a few weeks. This came as a result of my post from two weeks ago about all Lexar XQD memory cards being already listed as discontinued at B&H (Adorama is also sold while some models are still in stock at Amazon).

Update – see also this related post:

More info on Lexar, XQD and CFExpress memory cards compatibility, Hoodman rumored to start making XQD cards

Nikon D850 pre-orders update

A quick update on the latest Nikon D850 deliveries based on information I received from readers:

Both B&H and Adorama just started shipping Nikon D850 cameras that were pre-ordered on August 24th.

The approximate timing I am hearing is that by the end of November all pre-orders placed in August will be fulfilled. The hope is that the D850 wait list will be eliminated by the end of the year. Please note that this not a promise, just an estimation based on the information I am receiving from retailers and readers.

The Nikon D850 Facebook group also keep a detailed track of the latest B&H unofficial order status/camera deliveries for non-NPS members.

Check D850 availability: B&H | Adorama | Amazon | BuyDig | Cameta | Focus Camera | eBay | WEX | Jessops

Weekly Nikon news flash #442

Nikon to close their digital camera plant in China:

“The Japanese precision equipment manufacturer will make an official decision at a board meeting Monday. The Jiangsu plant, which employs 2,500 workers, turns out entry-level compact digital cameras and interchangeable lenses for single-lens reflex cameras. Some production will be outsourced and Nikon will continue to sell cameras in China, where it controls nearly 30% of the market.”

Nikon already issued their regular “no comment” statement.

Sony a7r III pre-orders not even close to the number of pre-orders the Nikon D850 got in the first 24 hours

After talking to several retailers, I was told that the number of Sony a7r III pre-orders in the first 24 hours is not even close to the number of Nikon D850 pre-orders generated on the first day. Of course this is not based on scientific data and it doesn’t really mean much except that DSLR cameras are not going anywhere anytime soon. It’s a shame that the Sony a7r III will probably be in stock before the Nikon D850 is.

The Nikon D850 DSLR camera is priced at $3,296, while the latest Sony a7r III mirrorless model is $100 cheaper – $3,198 (see also this comparison between both cameras).

Update (January 2018) – it seems that my initial report was correct, see this press release from Nikon:

Nikon claims the #1 spot in the full frame camera market during the 2017 holiday shopping season

Update (February 2018) – see also this related post:

Nikon D850 is Map Camera’s top selling camera for 2017 and January 2018

The Nikon D850 is Map Camera’s top-selling camera for February 2018 (again)

Update (August 2018): in July 2018, the Nikon D850 still outsold the Sony a7RIII camera.
