I traveled to Clemson, S.C. today to photograph the total solar eclipse for my company Legends of Learning. We took a class of Cobb County science students to see the eclipse. To photograph it, we set up a Nikon D810 with a Nikkor 200-500 mm f5.6 lens and shot with a DX crop for maximum size.

If you look at the photo of me shooting, you’ll notice that we taped a 20 stop filter sheet to the camera lens. It worked very well. In addition, the students loved watching the “ring of fire” on the live view screen, in essence using it as a telescope:
