I received a new set of Nikon Z9 mirrorless camera specifications from a reliable source:

• No official plans for a Nikon Z8 camera yet
• Prototype Z9 cameras may be tested at the Tokyo Olympics next year
• New Nikkor Z 400mm f/2.8 mirrorless lens is also rumored for the Olympics

• 46MP (previous rumors suggested a 60MP sensor)

Canon and Sony are also rumored to announced new top of the line mirrorless cameras in 2021. Nikon executives have confirmed on several occasions that a pro-level Nikon Z camera is coming (D6 equivalent):

• Nikon CEO confirmed a new mirrorless camera equivalent to the D5 is coming
• Nikon executive on whether Nikon will release a pro model like the D5 in the Z-line: “Count on it!”

The biggest confusion so far is the 45MP/60MP sensor. Every single Z8/Z9 tip I received so far was about a 60MP sensor:

• Nikon Z8 and Nikon D850 replacement rumored to have a 60MP sensor
• First indications of the rumored Nikon camera with 60MP and 16-bit NEF files
• The rumors about a new Nikon Z8 camera with a 60MP sensor make more sense today
• Rumors: Nikon signed up to purchase the new Sony 60MP sensor (IMX455)

Maybe Nikon will keep the 60MP sensor for the Z8 and D850 replacement and make the Z9 the top of the line, D6-equivalent model with a 45MP sensor?
