After Nikon closed two lens factories in Japan back in 2021, there is a new report from Japan that Nikon is building a new lens factory worth 30 billion yen in Tochigi (more info on Tochigi Nikon is available here and here). The new facility will produce lenses for microscopes, cameras, and semiconductor equipment and is aiming for 26 years of operation. Here is the translated text:
“Nikon invests 30 billion yen in new lens factory for efficient production of multiple types
Nikon will rebuild the main factory of its subsidiary, Tochigi Nikon (Otawara City, Tochigi Prefecture, President Tsuyoshi Tsuda). The company will expand production capacity for lenses used in microscopes, cameras, and semiconductor exposure equipment. Aiming to start operation in 2026.”
Also; Sony already moved 90% of their camera production from China to Thailand.
