Nikon rumored to reduce their warranty in Europe from 3 to 1 year

I received some information from Germany that Nikon will reduce their warranty from 3 to 1 year. The German “Gewährleistung” will still remain 2 years:

In Germany there’s a difference between “Gewährleistung” and “Garantie” (both translate to warranty), where Garantie is more worth than Gewährleistung. Gewährleistung (24 months by law) is about problems that existed at the moment of buying. Garantie (which no manufacturer has to give, but is free to) will cover the functionality of the bought item over the given time span.

I am not familiar with the laws in the EU and I am not sure if this warranty reduction is only for Germany or the entire European Union (my guess is this will be for the whole EU).

Additionally I also received another confirmation about the upcoming EU price increase – Nikon has already officially notified dealers.
