Additional information on the upcoming Otus ML 35mm f/1.4 lens for Nikon Z-mount
Specifications:
ZEISS Otus ML lenses are a new optical design inspired by the legendary Otus series of SLR lenses, best-in-class manual prime lenses, bringing ZEISS’s exceptional optical performance to mirrorless cameras with Sony E-mount, Nikon Z-mount, and Canon RF-mount.
Ultimate precision engineering and mechanical design enable you to capture every detail with exceptional sharpness, vibrant colors, and the unique ZEISS three-dimensional rendering, enabling you to capture the moment exactly as you imagined it.
The third in the series, following the Otus ML 1.4/50 and 1.4/85, the Otus ML 1.4/35 is a large-aperture, near-wide-angle lens with unparalleled optical quality.
This lens offers an angle of view that allows you to capture the broadness of a scene while highlighting the subject, and offers full manual control over focus, depth, and detail. In addition to suppressing distortion thanks to the aspherical design and chromatic aberration thanks to anomalous partial dispersion glass, ZEISS T* coating suppresses unwanted reflections within the lens, minimizing lens flare and enhancing image contrast and color fidelity. The maximum aperture of f/1.4 enables it to handle challenging low-light conditions, and its 10-blade aperture produces soft, harmonious bokeh.
The Otus ML 1.4/35’s full-metal movement boasts outstanding quality, the result of first-class craftsmanship. The precisely engineered mechanism offers a unique physical sensation of becoming one with your equipment through the act of manual focusing. The knurled metal focus ring allows for silky-touch operation from infinity to a minimum focusing distance of 0.3m, enabling precise focusing.
The aperture ring operates in 1/3-stop increments (1-stop for f/11-16), and a switchable de-click mechanism allows for stepless aperture adjustment. The lens mount is equipped with a blue silicone seal, and each moving part is internally sealed to protect against dust and water droplets, ensuring reliability even under harsh conditions.
The lens construction consists of 15 elements in 11 groups, including two aspherical lenses and seven anomalous partial dispersion glass elements, achieving the ultimate in optical quality.
The optics have been optimized for Sony E-mount, Nikon Z-mount, and Canon RF-mount, and are equipped with electronic contacts that comply with each mount standard. Communication with the camera body is also possible, supporting Exif information and various shooting assist functions. Each mount version comes with a metal petal-shaped lens shade (reverse mounting possible) and a cushioned lens storage pouch with the ZEISS logo.
