Today, Cosina announced a new Voigtlander APO-LANTHAR 28mm f/2 Aspherical lens for Nikon Z-mount.
Pre-orders will open soon at: B&H | Erhardt | WEX
This is the 13th Voigtlander lens for Z-mount:
Five Voigtlander lenses for Nikon Z-mount are now on sale (up to $355):
Voiglander lenses for Nikon F-mount are also on sale.
Additional information on the new Voigtlander APO-LANTHAR 28mm f/2 Aspherical lens for Nikon Z-mount:
Equipped with an optical system optimized for the image sensors of mirrorless cameras that use the Nikon Z mount, this lens has a full-size image circle and can be used with both full-size (Nikon FX format) mirrorless cameras and APS-C size (Nikon DX format) mirrorless cameras.
In addition to thoroughly eliminating various aberrations, including axial chromatic aberration, we also pursue ultimate performance in terms of resolution and contrast reproduction.
The lens consists of 12 elements in 8 groups, including 6 elements of anomalous partial dispersion glass and 2 double-sided aspherical lenses, and is also equipped with a floating mechanism.
The lens mount is equipped with electronic contacts, enabling electrical communication between the lens and body. The combination of an electrical communication-compatible body and the latest firmware enables support for Exif information, in-body image stabilization (3-axis), and three types of focusing support functions (focusing by changing the focus point frame color, focusing by peaking, and focusing using the magnification button).
The all-metal helicoid unit is machined and adjusted with high precision, and the use of high-quality grease that generates just the right amount of torque ensures smooth focusing, allowing for subtle focus adjustments.
Cosina reminds us that the Voigtlander Z-mount lenses look awesome on the new Nikon Zf silver camera
Press release:
Cosina Corporation will release the APO-LANTHAR 28mm f/2 Aspherical Z-mount, a wide-angle lens designed exclusively for the Nikon Z-mount and compatible with the full-frame FX format, under the Voigtländer brand.
APO-LANTHAR is a designation given to Voigtländer lenses with particularly high performance, and the “APO” stands for apochromatic design. The apochromatic design, which minimizes axial chromatic aberration of the three primary colors of light, was originally required with the advent of color film. Even more so than the severe challenges posed by the transition from monochrome to color film in the mid-20th century, today’s high-pixel digital sensors require extremely high levels of chromatic aberration suppression. Apochromatic design is not an outdated technology that has already been solved; it is a topic that must be seriously addressed in the digital age.
The APO-LANTHAR 28mm f/2 Aspherical Z-mount is Voigtländer’s highest-performance wide-angle lens to date, joining the previously released APO-LANTHAR 50mm f/2 Aspherical and APO-LANTHAR 35mm f/2 Aspherical (excluding macro lenses). Optimized for full-frame Nikon Z-mount sensors, its apochromatic design thoroughly eliminates axial chromatic aberration and other aberrations, while also pursuing ultimate performance in terms of resolution and contrast reproduction (see attached MTF chart). Constructed of 12 elements in 8 groups, the lens features six anomalous partial dispersion glass elements, two double-sided aspherical elements, and a built-in floating mechanism. Delivering flawless rendering from a minimum focusing distance of 0.28m to long distances, this lens boasts performance that completely changes the perception of a large-aperture wide-angle lens like the 28mm f/2.
The dream of engineers to achieve ultimate performance can sometimes lead to complacency, resulting in increased lens size and weight that doesn’t translate to photographers’ enjoyment. We believe that Voigtländer lenses should offer uncompromising optical performance while also being easy to handle. The APO-LANTHAR 28mm F2 Aspherical Z-mount, which aims to combine ultimate optical performance with a compact design, is one ideal example of this. At 60.0mm from the mount, it’s even shorter than the previously released APO-LANTHAR 35mm F2 Aspherical semi-wide-angle lens, achieving a compact size. Furthermore, its 12 nearly circular aperture blades faithfully capture bokeh, even of point light sources.
The APO-LANTHAR 28mm F2 Aspherical Z-mount is equipped with electronic contacts, and the combination of a telecommunications-compatible body and the latest firmware*1 supports Exif data, in-body image stabilization (3-axis), and three focusing assistance functions (focusing by changing the focus point frame color, focusing with the peaking function, and focusing with the magnification button). It comes with a metal circular bayonet-type hood that can be attached in reverse and is compact when stored.
