Nikon executive: “we want to increase the development speed of new products and shorten the lead time to put out new products”


The Japanese website Newswitch published an interview with Nikon Executive Officer Gokyu ShinYoshimi. Here is a brief recap:

  • Nikon’s sales for the 2019 fiscal year fell 22% for the interchangeable-lens camera and 18% for lenses compared to the previous year
  • In the future Nikon wants to increase the development speed of new products and shorten the lead time to put out new products (Z-mount)
  • “Smaller and lighter” is the future trend (while talking about the new Nikkor 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR lens)
  • Nikon’s future plan: to fully develop the Z system
