Nikon 100 Anniversary book now available

The new Nikon 100 Anniversary book is now available at Amazon US and Amazon Germany. Book description and additional illustrations:

On the occasion of the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Nikon Cooperation in 2017 Uli Koch, one of the most prominent Nikon collectors, has just completed the book "Nikon - 100 Anniversary". This shows Nikon items over a period of 100 years by the slogan "the image is the information". Beside many cameras, lenses and matching accessories this book contains binoculars, microscopes, industrial lenses and other technical instruments over a period from 1917 till 2016. The hardcover book has 416 pages and a size of about 12 x 8.4" (30x21cm), all printed in color. This illustrated book has 360 pictures of many different Nikon items with additional about 1,800 detailed pictures of those main item pictures. The picture descriptions are in English language, the preface and the chapters descriptions are in English and in Japanese language. All pictures were taken on two different backdrops with the same flash equipment. Uli Koch traveled to worldwide collectors to archive this comprehensive overview with so many highlights.

No, no. There’s an illustration in the book with thousands of cameras and bodies. You have to find the DL in that image. You know…”Where’s waDLo?”

    • MB

The Nikon 100 anniversary is July 25, DL cameras will not be released in time to be included in the book 😉

    • EnPassant

On the moon! DL = Destino Luna!

    • Photobug

Wait until March. See posting on main page.

  • saywhatuwill

And in a few months that book will be obsolete since Nikon will announce new cameras and lenses.

    • Eric Calabros

Well the book is basically about obsolescence

    • drororomon

Maybe you’re on to something… maybe they aren’t releasing/announcing anything until after July to keep the book relevant?

  • This book is exactly what I’ve been waiting for all my life!

    • eric

I can smell the sarcasm here!! lol

      • TwoStrayCats

Unless, of course, it really IS what Alan’s been waiting for all his life. And you just denigrated it.

    • T.I.M

I turn 50 in few months, that book could make a nice birthday gift !

Can’t wait the 110 update for oil leakage.

  • jairplane

Nikon is a marvelous camera company with truly great history – few other cameras made as many great shots, a true historic landmarks. So show some respect!
Yes, the company has some problems and has made some blunders – Nikon is not perfect – only some of the contributors to this forum can claim that. But Nikons are still magnificent tools in the hands of serious photographers.
    Congratulations, Nikon.

  • Alphaios

I don’t know… I’ll have to see it first, but it seems so old fashioned, not at all like a book I would expect from a forward looking technology company…

Don’t get me wrong the idea is good, but the design and the pictures seem pretty boring (again NOT content wise)

    • manattan

Apple also released a design book.
I think it’s great they are celebrating but history is just that. We unfortunately all have to live in the present.

      • Alphaios

This why I also said “shouldn’t be like apple”

the point is that this one seems like very little effort went into the photography and design of the book…

    • Lee Smith

Nikon is a camera and imaging company, not a “forward looking technology company.” (and that’s a good thing) Nikon has and will be around a hell of a lot longer than Apple or Tesla.

I don’t understand why people reading a “Nikon rumours” site seem to dislike Nikon. Are they newbie photographers? Did they just switch brands? Anyone who has been involved in photography for more than a week would have the perspective to realize that Nikon is the same company it has always been, and that’s why people use their cameras.

  • catfishb52

Wow $130 for their history — I’ll wait for the Cliff Notes

    • nwcs

Eventually it’ll show up in a used book store for $9.95. I’ll get it then. 🙂 Maybe I’ll also pay$4.95 for Apple’s self congratulating book that’s fairly similar.

      • ZoetMB

More likely it’s a small run and will go out of print and then the used book sellers will sell it for double or more. There’s a bunch of the Apple book on e-bay for slightly less than Apple’s price, but the book is still in print.

        • nwcs

It all depends on if there’s a market for it. In the short run maybe, in the longer run probably not.

    • TwoStrayCats

Well, if you’d bought that history in 1962 it would’ve been $3.

  • $130 RUBK

  • Clubber Lang

The Exif info shows that a Sigma lens was used to take the photos for this book.

    • br0xibear

Someone at Amazon, who took images of the book for their website, may have used a Sigma lens, the images inside the book were taken on a D800 and AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm.

      • Pippo

Great article, great book. Reasonable price for 412 p. small edition, hard cover colour book.

      • Clubber Lang

Ha! I wasn’t being serious. I was just joking around. They could have shot the photos with a plastic cup and renolds wrap for all I care:)

        • Max

          I have to try that.

        • T.I.M

A Polaroid camera would give great pictures, instantly !
I don’t think anybody care about witch camera they used to make the book (as long it’s not a Canon)

      • Thank god it was shot with the d800. The DR and high res really shows paired with the 105mm.

  • Fly Moon

    Dear Nikon,

If you want to be relevant in the next 100, act like it’s 2017! Your software and Apps are pathetic. Even your customers are acting like your BETA for your Snapbrdige iOS App, you still don’t update it and fix it. WTF are you doing?

It seems you’re focusing on your history than your future!

    • ZoetMB

The book was produced by Uli Koch, who has written other Nikon books. I’m not sure whether Nikon funded it or not, but even if they did, it has absolutely nothing to do with the development of software or hardware.

      • Fly Moon

        No kidding, Einstein!

    • Lee Smith

Then switch brands. Plain and simple. Nikon realizes that stupid phone apps and whatever else you are thinking of are TRENDS and not long term products. The only reason cameras even have wifi or bluetooth transfer is for stupid Instagram. Nothing else.

      • Fly Moon

Thank goodness you told that I can switch brands. I wasn’t sure if photography will extinct if Nikon disappeared!!

You’re dumb. I use the App for GPS geotagging not instagram!

  • IronHeadSlim

Where does it say that Nikon produced this book?

(Apple did produce their self aggrandizing book)

    • br0xibear

I don’t think Nikon did produce it, whether they commissioned it or not I don’t know ? It’s been availabe to buy since Nov 2016

      http://nikon100.net/#books

      • IronHeadSlim

Thanks, I was harsh with Apple’s book because it was embarrassing for them but this one seems different. Even though Nikon has pooped the bed on many things recently.

  • Jbay

Nikons 100th anniversary – nothing. Hi Sony!

  • TwoStrayCats

I would like to see a new book entitled, “Mastering the Df2.” Thank you!

  • Not sure what everyone is complaining about. This is a book that looks like its actually 100 years old about Nikon’s 100 year anniversary. It’s a perfect fit for a old company trying to show how old and out of touch they are.

  • ZoetMB

Eli Koch has written at least three other Nikon books and I suspect much of this book was taken from the books he’s already done. I never bought those as they were too expensive.

If the book is reasonably priced, I’d probably buy it. I have the Brian Long book, “Nikon: A Celebration” and that’s a very well done book that has not only images of cameras but much about Nikon’s early marketing and a fair amount of interesting text.

  • Aldo

The 27mm equiv prime plus the 50mm equiv prime =400 bucks… make that 1200 bucks if you want the 86mm equiv…
I think I’m gonna give the DL 24-85 a shot….Good value for the money. If it aint good I’ll just look into another system.

  • whisky

for the requested price, it would help if one could actually look inside — as wth other Amazon titles. the few photos of the inside which were posted make it appear more like an expensive catalogue than a 100 year anniversary celebration. JMO.

  • I just bought this from amazon, terrific book with beautiful photographs. Very high quality. This really reminds you what an innovative company Nikon has been and what a rich history they have. I was at the Nikon museum in Tokyo a couple of weeks ago and I couldn’t help smiling as this book makes a great companion to my museum visit.

  • Pk Bullock

Got the book. 2/3 of the way through it. lots i don’t know about nikon.
