Nikon published an updated list of recommended lenses for the D800E camera
When the D800/E cameras were announced last year, Nikon released a technical guide which contained a list of recommended lenses for the D800E model (page 16). Several new lenses were announced since and recently Nikon published an updated new list of “lenses that offer excellent resolution” for the D800E:

The first thing you will notice is that there is not a single 50mm lens on that list. Even the newer 50mm f/1.8G version is not listed. It seems that the gold ring still has a meaning in Nikon’s nomenclature. I personally was surprised that the 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G lens that doesn’t have a gold ring was also listed. Tomorrow DxOMark will release its test results for that lens and we will be able to compare it with other Nikkor lenses.
