Nikon D700 for $2267.99 at BestBuy right now

Last week I posted about the Nikon D700 being out of stock in all major online retailers in the US. A reader just informed me thatย BestBuy got some in stock and are selling them pretty cheap: $2267.99ย for body only which is the lowest price I've seen since the earthquake in Japan.

    • I wish Nikon could release a new FX model with that price.

      • everyone wish the same ๐Ÿ˜‰
but everyone knows it will be more ๐Ÿ™

  • Shane

    I sniff a d800 on the horizon hehe ๐Ÿ™‚

    Come too papa

    • henry

      “Come too papa”

      That’s disgusting.

      • Yeah D800 come to the papa here, iยดll touch you smoothly!

      • scurvy hesh

Are you that terrible artist “Henry” from Seattle?

    • The invisible man

  • Shane

U obviously haven’t a since of humour, lighten up!!!!!

    • BartyL

I think you should reflect on the difference between “Come too Papa”, and “Come to Papa”. I suspect the latter was what you intended, but the former has a very different meaning.

Henry has a sense of humour alright. Just as black and twisted as my own.

      • Martin Wong

wow, good call, Henry just became Dirty Henry

        • Jeremy

Does he feel lucky? Well does he, punk?

  • $1.800,00 and i buy one! Cheers!

  • ladiesman217

I make it about 2 weeks till we know (24th)

    D4? D800? D400? Mirrorless? Lenses?

    • PHB

I think the next couple of weeks will be just a house cleaning to prepare for the new range.

Of all the cameras likely to be launched, the biggest money spinners would be the EVIL launch and the D9000. It does not make much sense to launch retreads of the D3 generation technology after the flagship launch and so I expect the D9000 and D700 mid life refresh out first.

I can’t see any chance of a D800. Nikon seems to be very keen on promising a four year lifespan for professional gear.

  • Geoff

Wait another week and they will drop another $100 IF they still have any in stock.

  • Rockadell

Waiting for the D400! Or D800
hope they Announce those on the 24th ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Just got off the phone with Best Buy. You can only get the D700 deal if you pick it up in store. There are NONE in any store in the entire Northeast and they cannot ship it to you. After pressing the rep more, she said the item was listed as a discontinued product line (as in Best Buy no longer carries it/will not be receiving more).

I asked her to search the system to see if there was a D800 model listed in the system and she said there was not. She also knew very little (unsurprisingly) about any further replacement release information.

(Sorry that this is also posted on the previous post, but didn’t see this one yet and it’s more relevant here.)

    • enesunkie

The D7000 has the same problem. Not one to be found in the entire state of New York!

      • enesunkie

        Thats body only anyway.

    • enesunkie

Oh look, the D300s is in the same boat. Now if you happen to be shopping for a D3000, then it looks like your in luck!

    • The invisible man

She can’t find a D800 if the D700 is to be replace by the D900 !

    • no-nikon-no

shows as available in southern california stores, ships to store for store pickup. have to pay sales tax, but has in store warranty which is very nice.

  • cirtap

I checked that out also…IN Los cannot even order the Nikon D700 with that new wonderful price…and Even checked out the stock..NO GOOD!!! No store in the LA area has that camera…IF you cannot purchase online..or even at that store…????

    • FX DX

Same Here. I checked several stores in Chicago area and they are all out of stock. This is what I am getting on BestBuy’s website:

We’re sorry, these items are no longer available to ship to the store you’ve selected: โ€ข Nikon – 12.1-Megapixel D700 Digital SLR Camera – Black
Please choose a different store, or change your shipping or delivery method.

    • Dexter0508

I checked Bestbuy Los Feliz here in LA and NADA. This post by Bestbuy is just doesn’t make sense! hahaha

  • EvanK

“D700 Digital SLR Camera – Black”

Darn, I was hoping that the pink one would be on sale too! ๐Ÿ˜›

On a side note, it looks like Canon’s on the same route, they’re clearing out their 5D Mk. IIs, currently they’re on sale at Henry’s Photo for $500 off (Price of $2250). It looks like we’ll be seeing 2 new full frame bodies competing in the near future.

    • D700guy

Just get a can of spray paint

  • matgay

looks like this steep price drop means the d700 replacement will be announced this year! after all, it is the most anticipated replacement model, if they annouce it on august 23/24, it will be a very smart way to grab market share. heck they can even announce d4 and d800 at same time as they are really aimed for different customers.

    • Art

Just curious … From the time that it is announced, how long will it be do people think before we start seeing some reviews and comparisons? I’d imagine that there are a few cameras out there already and perhaps reviews are already written at DPReview and elsewhere. Would this be a fair assumption?

Since I probably won’t be able to buy a D800 on the day it is announced, it sure would be nice to be able to at least read about it in the meantime.

    • cirtap

R U New? IT will be announced August 23rd!!! Please keep up. LOL

      • no-nikon-no

nope. they did NOT say which models will be announced on august 23rd. it is only speculation

  • Nirvana

It’s $1800 if you have best buy employee discount. And I was offered a floor model with only 500 actuations for $1300 back in 2009; tho went with the D300 for $800 cuz of short of $ at the time. It’s all about who you know ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Orlando C

This is exactly what occurred when I purchased a new D200 from BBY for $599. Four weeks later the D300 was in stock. To me, the D800 will be announce and released soon.

    • Art

I agree it will be on the shelves soon. Of course, some have suggested it may be months before it is available but, I have a hard time seeing it being that long simply because all the D700’s are pretty much out of stock already. I can’t imagine that Nikon would allow there be a gap for long where the semi-pros and pros simply can’t get a camera from Nikon.

    • IanZ28

I have one of those $600 D200’s as well.

That was such an unbelievable price and the D200 still produces great results at low ISO’s.

  • One More Thought

It’s a good sign about the price of the new D700 replacement model…it seems to suggest that this model will be priced about where the D700 was when it was first released, or about $2700.

I know some people speculated it would be much more, like around $3000 or more…but I don’t think they would lower the price this much on the old model if the new one was going to be significantly more expensive.

    So good news!

    • broxibear

      Hi One More Thought,
I don’t think the price at Best Buy has any bearing on the price of a D700 replacement…they might just getting rid of stock, possibly display models.
Here in the UK the D700 is out of stock at almost all retailers, and yet the prices are at their highest since 2008.

      • One More Thought

I think they are getting rid of stock, due to the coming model. The website says nothing about display models; Best Buy usually lets you know if that’s the case. In fact in the US they have an entire website dedicated to floor models, refurbs, etc.

You could be right, broxibear, but I still think that a major retailer like this one would not liquidate a soon to be discontinued model at such a price discount if its replacement were going to be that much higher priced. I can’t comment on the UK; perhaps the price is not down because they are out of stock and not trying to move remaining inventory.

At any rate, we will soon see….good times ahead!

BTW, here’s something crazy as well: the Canon 5dII is on the BB website at $2123.99…

        • broxibear

          Hi One More Thought,
At the moment in the UK EOS 5D Mark II bodies are being sold with a free BG-E6 Battery Grip from Canon…earlier in the year Mark IIs were impossible to find but there’ seems to be stock around now.
So many film makers are now invested in the Canon system, especially the colleges, I can’t see many of them switching to Nikon no matter how good it might be as far as video goes.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Mark III announcement in September.

  • JonMcG

Yeah, all good news here and at this point, considering we’re only two weeks away from an announcement, with a solid rumor that at least 1 FX camera will be released (and probably two), we’re going to finally get the D700 replacement. It would seem to be as close to a sure thing as you can get and not actually be a sure thing.. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Just sold my D700 on eBay for $2126. Not too bad considering it was 2 and a half years old! I have a pile of cash ready to be spent on a new Nikon!

    • Tony

      You lucky dog ๐Ÿ™‚

    • D700guy

You could be cameraless for a while.

  • broxibear

Australian authourised Nikon dealer ECS (Sydney) have just posted this on their front page…
    “AS AT 09/08/2011:
Anticipation builds as rumours circulate about Nikon FX replacements. Announcements are expected by the end of August. Smart money is backing a re-vamp of the D700 and D3S but given Nikon’s capacity to amaze a ‘wait-and-see’ approach is probably the best policy. ”

    • Worminator

Are authorized retailers not given the details in advance? Under NDA of course.

In other words are they speculating or pretending to speculate?

If the latter then you can read into that as follows: what will be announced is not going to be exactly what people expect.

    • For everyones information. ……..(deliberately unnamed owner) European Camera Specialists also has a couple of D700’s in stock for those interested. No price drops have been noticed in Australia. Anxiously awaiting the D4 and 50mm 1.2

  • Worminator

Yep, stocks are drying up worldwide, $500 discount since July 24 to make sure whatever is left is mopped up before …

…well, all signs point to an FX replacement, don’t they?

  • shivaswrath

This is like the D200 deal 2 years ago…
More than EVER, this signals end of the D700 and release of the D800..

  • Dexter0508

Here it is! The new D800 prototype ๐Ÿ˜› hehehehe! jk ๐Ÿ™‚

    • pethunia

      That is funny, Dexter0508!

  • Joaquim Prado

I bet it’s going to be about the same price! What retail proce the D90 had when launched? 1,100USD? D7000 1,200USD? Nikon D800/900 retail for 1,800USD or same as D700. Better be since it might not be made in japan anymore.

  • Joaquim Prado

    Sorry! 2,800USD

    • Tony

Dollar is not as strong as it used to be, so it has to be more expensive.

      • D700guy

  • Mike Devonport

Well I’m looking at Best Buy Canada web site, body alone is $2,499.99. As well I am looking at Best Buy USA and the price is $2,699.99. Where did you get price $2267.99? This does not make sense?

    • One More Thought

On the USA website, you have to see the price in the cart to see the discounted price…

      • I added it to my cart and saw no discount. Also, when I tried to select a store to ship it to none where available in the Central Florida area.

        • Dexter0508

if you own a bestbuy account, you’ll see the discount. it seems like you just entered the website not trough a bestbuy account

  • Chris P

As far as the UK goes, Warehouse Express is showing the D700 as ‘backorder’ and Jessops is showing it as ‘out of stock’ for home delivery. If they haven’t got any then one of the cameras to be released, whatever it’s called, is the D700 replacement.

  • broxibear

Nikon Corp raised its forecast above market expectations on record sales of cameras and solid demand for LCD steppers used to make smartphone and tablet PC screens…
“Sales and profit on digital SLRs, interchangeable lenses and compact cameras were the highest for an April-June quarter, despite a historically strong yen biting into profits.
Like Canon, which also lifted its forecast, Nikon said it was helped by a quicker-than-expected recovery from supply chain halts after Japan’s March 11 earthquake. ”

  • broxibear

    Hi AnoNemo,
Actually I think it’s embarrassing for Nikon that people get their information about future products from sites like nikonrumors instead of the sites Nikon signed up with NDAs, or their own site.

    • AnoNemo

What I was trying to point out that we are 13 days away from the “big announcement” and we have absolutely no clue what’s coming. I disagree with you because even you get some sense about iPod products 2 weeks before announcement. I am not saying that we need to know all details but a “minor leak” would be valued by Nikon’s loyal customers.

I am afraid that many will be disappointed. If something big would be in the pipeline we would have some clue about it.

      • broxibear

        Hi AnoNemo,
Just because there have been leaks in the past doesn’t mean there will be any now or in the future.
It’s obvious that Nikon have changed the way they release product details to retailers, reps etc…that is where most of the leaks/information came from. Nikon want to prevent what happened with the AFS 50mm f1.8G, that’s why everyone was shocked when the Micro 40mm was announced…they’re very capable of keeping products secret until they want the information released.
Even if there was an image leaked of the D4 today it would make no difference to anything, or anyone, apart from feeding curiousity. It wouldn’t mean your wait for a D800 or D4 would be shorter, it wouldn’t change the price…I don’t understand what people expect from a rumour site beyond what Peter/admin already gives.
Considering the amount of grief that Peter gets from various posters on this site it wouldn’t surprise me if he just turns off the comments feature, and only posts the article itself…I for one wouldn’t blame if he did.

        • D700guy

So very true, considering the possibility that these new bodies won’t even be available for several months after their initial announcement.

      • Joe

If you look hard enough at other photography forums and you’ll find some hints of what’s coming out in Aug from some reliable sources. (Note that hints from reliable sources is different from user speculation)

D4 is coming for sure. Also, there is another new FF camera which won’t be called D800 and will have have higher resolution than 12mb. I don’t believe people will get disappointed. It’s only a question of whether a new entry level FF camera will be introduced or the FF sensor actually finds its way down to the D300 replacement.

    • Tony

This is one of many thing that make them falling into a second spot (or not going to be a number one anytime soon). ๐Ÿ™

  • Andreas

In Norway there’s been more or less constant availability of the D700. has a couple in store for about 3100USD, same price or even a bit higher than regular. I haven’t seen the D700 discounted in Norway at all over the last couple of years…

    • Andreas

Same price at Interfoto, the largest professional Nikon retailer in Norway. They also have a couple in stock. No signs of a replacement anywhere here, unfortunately (or a discount, which would be even better ๐Ÿ™‚ )

  • human tripod

D400 will be entry-level FF and will be less than the D700 with better specs. It will be announced with the D4 on 8/24. D800 will be 2012. No need for a D300 “replacement” when a FF sensor can be cropped and give you better than D300s performance at 18 MP.

    • Trevor

The D300 is the DX flagship, ie a pro spec body and functions with a DX sensor. Replacing that with the lowest level FX makes no sense. Now, D7000 specs with an FX sensor called the D9000 – that I could see.

What I think would be great would be to see the D3x evolve to the D4 – big resolution, big body, studio style flagship. The D3s evolve to the D800 but with the D700 body – lower mp, awesome DR and ISO, tighter body. And a D9000 evolve from the D7000 – FX but lower on the feature set and right at $2k.

    • preston

This seriously makes no sense. They would never call a new entry level FX a D400 because you would have a bunch of D300 owners buying the D400 as an upgrade and then being PISSED when they find out that their DX lenses have massive vignetting.

      • Tony

It could have an automatic crop function to eliminate the confusion. But all the D300 owners should know what their lenses can do.

The problem you said could affect some D9000 users (if Nikon really going to put FX in D7000 body)

      • human tripod

So… you think D300 owners are idiots. I give them a little more credit. Don’t get hung up on the model numbers so much.

  • Anthony

They must have realized their mistake, it’s coming up as $2699.00 now. FAIL!

    • yes, the discount is gone

    • matgay

      BestBuy Fail!!!

  • Christino

$3600.00 USD in Brasil. Grey market. No receipt.

$5000.oo USD plus from an authorized dealer, I guess.

  • AnoNemo

    NR Admin,

Some odd things are happening with your site. The last couple of days it became a bit slow and today NOD32 found some script and completely blocked the site for awhile. Run a scan on it. Also, I suggest to try to cut it smaller to increase the performance.

  • Best Buy Employee

According to our systems (I’m a current employee of Best Buy), Grapevine, TX store 148, Frisco, TX store 180, Wichita, KS store 51, Springfield, MO store 52, West Wichita, KS store 224, Mobile, AL store 340, Birmingham, AL store 383 and the Galleria location in Houston, TX all have at least one unit available for sale. These are more than likely display models that would be sold at a further discount. I only checked my area, but they are out there.

    • Tony

LOL, first I thought the number mean the store has that many cameras.

  • selling off the old stock ready for the new models to come in. SOON.

  • the canon 5d mark II has also come down in price to $2499

  • Suzanne Henderson

Yeah, and in typical best buy fashion, they dont have any but refuse to pull their advertising…I went in to a best buy, because, according to their website, they had them in stock..I even called in to verify while I was sitting in the parking lot that they still had them……and I walked into the store…literally 30 seconds later…and the sales associated laughed at me…she told me that they havent had one, there are none local, and they are NOT EVEN AVAILABLE FOR ORDER AT THEIR ADVERTISED PRICE!!!! WHAT A JOKE!

  • Joe

I called Nikon support today as I was unable to log in to my account on the USA Nikon website – needed to have my password reset there. Anyhow, while I was on the phone with the rep who was helping me I asked him “what was new there at Nikon?” His reply: “We are waiting to hear about the D700 replacement later this month.”

I asked if he had any other details and he said that he hasn’t heard anything…

  • that’s unfair…we (europeans) pay 2015โ‚ฌ for body only!!, about 400โ‚ฌ more than in the US. DAMN….

    • Sahaja

    • Tony

It’s depend on sale volume too.

  • HD

Ha! I bought my D700 for $2349 in October 2008 and have gotten nearly three years and 20k photos use out of it. Well worth the $80 more.

Sorry, the gloating just got too much…

  • richardy

I just bought a new D700 three weeks ago here in HK and at HK$17800 for the body. Converted to USD, it costs me US$2282, which is roughly the same as the BestBuy price. D700 is still a very capable body which is enough for my needs at the moment.

  • Price went up to 2699.99… Are you surprised?
