Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras pricing now available!

The new Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras is already available from Amazon for $499 (you can only pre-order now – shipment on July 10, 2008. I am disappointed from the actual pricing. The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras sells for $399 and I was expecting the 50mm version to be cheaper than the 30mm. Why am I even talking about that? I am trying to guess the price of a potential Nikon AF-S equivalent of those two lenses. Let’s assume a price ration of 2:1 between the Nikon and Sigma lenses – this will make a potential Nikon AF-S 30 mm (or 28mm) cost $800 and new Nikon AF-S 50 mm will be $1000. This is assuming f/1.4 for both AF-S lenses. This price predictions makes sense also if you look at the Nikon 60mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Micro-Nikkor Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras that currently sells for $500.

The expectation is that Nikon will announce those new lenses (or similar) before the Olympics.
