Nikon firmware has been decrypted by Simeon Pilgrim (with the help of Vitaliy Kiselev – the person who hacked the Panasonic GH2 firmware). The decryption worked on D5100 and D7000 and is currently being tested on higher end models. The decryption itself doesn’t mean much at that point, but it may offer some neat “adjustments” in the future.

The previously rumored Nikon D7000 firmware update 1.02 is now official. You can download it from Nikon Europe support website (now available also on Nikon US site). List of fixes after the break:
A reader received his Nikon D7000 back from a Nikon Service Center in Shanghai with a new firmware version 1.02. I do not have a list of fixes for this firmware update, but previous rumors suggested improvements for AF backfocus, corrected aperture calculation with zoom lenses in LiveView mode and more.
Update: this is probably a false alarm – the 1.002 version on the D7000 is for the built in lens corrections database: I received two different tips that a new Nikon D7000 firmware v1.02 will be released soon.
