So like, I lost my photoshop install files and I want to start adding watermarks to my pics. As far as I can tell, Capture NX2 doesn't have a way to add watermarks unless I'm completely clueless.
Anyway, does anyone know of a good free program that can allow me to do this? I found this one weird one but you have to upload the photo, then add the watermark which isn't a very good one, then download the file again. Or am I not in touch with reality for hoping there is such a thing?
Gentoo, are you talking about the kind that don't show up in the image but are somehow embedded in it, or the semitransparent ones that can be seen on the image, like "photos by gentoo," for example?

If you have photoshop you don't need any complicated programs to do it Gentoo. Unless your referring to a photoshop action?

Actually, I changed my mind. It's not a true watermark I want it's more like this:

How hikerboy has his name and © signed on the image. I know I sound ignorant but it never occurred to me to do this before.
Gentoo that's just text typed onto the image. Are you talking about the font he used? What version of photoshop are you using?

Yeah with 7 you can just select the type tool (the big T looking button on your tools pallet) and type your name. You can resize the text to a specific font size too.
OK, I see that. I guess in 7 there is no more hand-written type, just various prints.
Oh you can change the font that's not a problem. So what your really asking is that you want a handwriting font, right? Just do a Google search for free fonts. You can get all sorts of different styles for Macs and PCs.
OK, typing and adding text on a pic is simple enough in photoshop. In fact, I've done that before in the past. Here's the me sounding ignorant part again:
Now that I've downloaded and saved a font I like, how do I get it into photoshop?
Assuming your on a PC with XP just go into the "control panel" and open up your "fonts" folder (make sure your in "classic view" in the control panel otherwise you won't see the fonts folder listed)
After you download the new font you want and you've unzipped or extracted the folder just copy the (TrueType) file of your new font over to the control panel fonts folder.
Restart or start photoshop up again and your new font should now be one of your font choices.

assuming your a windows user, copy the font into the windows\fonts folder and the font should be available in any program you use, (remember to exit the program first otherwise the font wont be visible), if its still not visible reboot the pc to reload the font cache.
Seems simple enough but the copy and paste as well as drag and drop will not work in my windows font folder.
What's the name and extension of the file your moving?
I have two of them now. Neither of them have an extension actually.
One is "baroque script". The other is "alako".
Did you unzipped the file you downloaded?
The files should look like this
BaroqueScript.ttf
The file icon should be two capital blue and grey "T"s

Well thanks again. I can now easily add my signature to images. I actually used to do this a long time ago. I only wish I had a © to add but those fonts don't have them. Oh well.
Just select a regular font like ariel that includes the © symbol and then use the font you want for your name.

Gentoo, are you sure the symbol is not in the font? If you're on a windows machine, try typing the digits 0169 while holding down the ALT key. ©
It's not in the font and thanks jonny for the alt code. I know the ones for accents but not that one
