Any news on Nikon event before Christmas?

Very unlikely. The new D3S is barely going to start shipping soon so another camera being announced between now and the end of the year isn't likely. The PMA conference is in Feb 2010 so that is when Nikon would unveil any new cameras and lenses.
The D3X announcement was on Dec 1, 2008 so this time last year the D3X announcement was already being talked about. This year however all is quiet.
On Dec 3rd 2003, Nikon made a press release announcing the "development" of the D70. Not very many details were given and Nikon only showed one picture of the camera and not the actual camera. The D70 wasn't actually unveiled until PMA 2004.
