or would it have to have higher MP, Nikon might be able to use the old D700 Sensor at a lower cost, compared to using a newer higher MP sensor to be found in the future D700 replacement
I think it would make sense to make the first D90 size FX priced around the $1500 area

Depends on the cost of old sensor and other parts to be used from the old D700, this camera should be made simple, just slightly larger in the viewfinder area compared to the D90.

Yes, I would buy it next month. I would even sacrifice on the viewfinder to have FX. Do you think they'd use a cheaper AF sensor, like the one they have now? Or do you think there's a chance they'd upgrade it to the D300's AF sensor? The Nikon FF line is going to be even more amazing once they get full frame coverage with their AF sensors. Maybe with the D4 they'll have one.

This is only speculation right, but I would think it would have the D90 AF sensor, if there is any chance of getting the cost down to that $1500, Nikon would have to dig through the parts bin to cut cost, but one thing is for sure at $1500 it will be good for Nikon, incl extra sales of FX lenses, but back to my post would you buy with only 12MP

The 18-55 VR lens, just kidding, yes Nikon have a bit of a problem here, they really need to make a better entry level FX zoom lens, but at this time the 24-120 FX lens have to do and yes the lens is not great, so at the same time Nikon please upgrade this lens also

Actually guys like I said in the other thread the $1500USD full frame is a strong possibility in Jan/Feb 2010, but I didn't say it would be a Nikon :^( I'm hoping it's a "D10/D500" but I'm thinking it'll be another Sony. Which is still good because the sensor could trickle down to a Nikon by summer or fall 2010.
I don't think it'll be 12mp. The rumor is 14-18mp and around 4 to 5 fps.

I did mean body cost, but it should also be priced with a lens combo

Hi Niko, I was just wondering if a 12MP could be made cheaper and we wanted it it sold for $1500. I was not really a rumor thing.

What if Nikon decides to do what Pete is talking about here, though? The D90 body sells for $800 and $700 was the price difference between the D300 and the D700 for a while there.

That just what I was thinking, yes we will get a new $3000 FX D800 or something, but I would rather get a $1500 12MP FX camera if possible, and it really should be done and if Sony makes a new higher MP (14-18 MP)low end FX sensor then it would be easy to upgrade the sensor on the next model

Well the only problem is that there's already a 24mp full frame for $18-1900ish. So $3-400 more gets you double the pixels. I think Nikon would be wasting time with such a "small" mp sensor when the market is about to get flooded with higher mp cameras.
Imagine if Nikon would have used the more advanced D2H's 4mp sensor in the D200!

I say Nikon sends me whatever cameras they plan on releasing next year and let me field test them... that is, if they haven't already :^D
