I'd be careful with such things ... I've had to deal with nonsense posters who just want to get their post number up in a forum. This might also affect the main netiquette of posting: are you sure that your post contributes anything to the thread? If not then don't post it. I must be honest that even I sometimes err against it :))
With this post I'd actually urge posters not to go down that road ;)
You're right monty, such things can happen, but this forum has been quite civil so far, and I expect it to remain so. Perhaps I'm just an optimist.

Monty, you could be right - I am still thinking it through. Even if it does happen, it will be for short period of time- 2 weeks, max a month while the giveway last. I will also think about having another one where everyone can participate, so anyone out there - don't start posting bogus comments.
I'm also not sure that post numbers are the way to go. Ive only posted a few times, but I'd like to think that when I do post its because I have something relevant to the subject to say. I dont want to just post to post. But I like free stuff :). So far I have been thrilled with the way this community has handled itself and am always pleasently surprised at the lack of cut-downs, rediculous fan boy comments and just the overall help this place has been. It wont last forever mind you, but I dont think we should accelerate the process!
dashingemt - I agree with You, if there's gonna be any giveaway stuff than it shouldn't be based on the number of posts, as it doesn't count anything - just typing skills. there should be at least one more criteria connected with quality - maybe a user-user evaluation.
I vote for Willis and adamz, sorry not for you our dearest admin, because they have pooled the leg and posted the most when it was most important, when whole thing was started.
I think the creator of the most popular and most creative thread should get it. :) So the creator of the Photo a day thread should get it, whoever that is... ;-)
