I am still in the old days by using a CRT monitor. I want to upgrade to a LCD. Just wondering what everybody might suggest. Of course I need something for good color and printing. I need to be able to calibrate it.

No problem John. What's your budget? Eizo and LaCie LCDs are top of the line but are very pricey ($2000 and up). I've used LaCie and Apple monitors for color critical work. My PC's currently have a combination of HP,Dell,Samsung and Viewsonic LCDs. Various sizes and prices. I haven't had any problems with any of them.
Besides color correcting I would also recommend (depending on your budget) a dual monitor set up. I do all of my work on dual monitors. All my tools on one screen and a full screen picture on the other. This set up is very convenient.

any 37inch 1080p monitor from a major brand should do fine. That's what I've got!
If not, get a mid/high range ASUS or Acer brand monitor. Their middle and high range monitors use better lcd panels which produce great color and contrast.

Honestly, I think as long as you stay away from the cheap ones, you should be fine. I own a Samsung 28 inch LCD with DVI and HDMI ports on it and it works great. But which ever monitor you get, make sure to properly calibrate it. That is by far the most important thing to do, and perhaps one of the most over looked.

I've been looking at Eizo and LaCie, but they are a little out of my price range. I can swing about $1000 give or take. Would lke to get the best in this price range if I can. I want at least a 24" monitor. I know some monitors use led back lighting, but don't know if this is a recqirement I should have or not.

If your doing photo editing for printing photos I'd go with a wide gamut monitor. I'm using a Planar PX2611W. I know NEC and LaCie make them too. I'm sure there are a few others.

I'm using a Samsung 2493HM and it's a great monitor for the price and very good at most things, but I'm planning on getting an Eizo when I get a new photo printer. The cost of the monitor is huge, but ink and paper are expensive and so is the time investment, so everyone I know who does graphic arts professionally uses Eizo or LaCie.

I am beginning to have problems with my ViewSonic after 3 years. It wants to "blink out" and only a rap on the back will bring it back to life.

I checked out your suggestion, but didn't see if it supported the full range of RGB or close to it. I think it will only cover sRGB.
