I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit from Vista 32 bit. Now, I cannot open any files taken with my D90 in Capture NX2. Keep in mind this is NX2, not NX 2.2, as many people keep getting these two mixed up when trying to offer me a solution. Anyway, I never had this problem before with Vista. I also have a D300, and these files open without any problem in Cap NX2 on Windows 7 (64bit). I just installed the latest Nikon NEF codec but that was no help, and as far as I can tell, my version of Cap NX2 is the latest. Any ideas out there?

Why don't you update to Capture NX2 Version 2.2.2?
Posted 3 years ago # -
2.2.2 is for NX, I can't find any update more recent than what I already have for NX2. When I check it tells me I have the most recent version of NX2. If you know a place where there is a NX2 version more recent than mine, please provide a link, it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know why, but it won't let me install the updates. I found the update to 2.2.2, but apprently I cannot jump directly from 2.0.0 to 2.2.2. There are updates inbetween that I have to install, like 2.1.0, the 2.2.0, and finally 2.2.2, but I tried to install them and it would tell me either Capture NX2 is already installed, or something about a different region. In any case, I cannot get updates installed.

Have you tried the contacting software support email?

Did you pay for your copy? Sorry if that's rude thing to ask but it could explain why it's not letting you update to the latest version if it's not a legit copy?

I had the same problem with Capture 4 back in the day (before I saw the light...room). Support spelled out an upgrade path that finally worked, though.

Nikon did a good job of recognizing this. Your serial will become invalid and the program will no longer work.
If you have Capture NX1 you can get two as an "upgrade" at a reduced cost. I aslo noticed you said something about a different region. I don't know where in the world you are but you have to get a version from your region as well. Just do what I did and break down and buy a legit copy. You will need to go to Nikon's general website and select your region then download from there. They will send you a link to download from and an activation key to your email.
MAKE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that you get the right one. If you're upgrading fromNX1, you need to have it installed or your key will not work. Even though it does not uninstall or write over NX1. This is just how it works. The new key I guess looks for and identifies the old one.

Before you do buy NX2, though, trial Lightroom (either the one-month trial of LR2 or the beta trial of LR3 that lasts until April 2010). My dad tried to convince me to switch from Capture NX for a while and I thought he was nuts thinking I'd want to learn a new interface. Switching was the best workflow decision I've ever made.

You can also try NX2 for 60 days and get full access to all the features so try both and decide.

Problem solved. The reason I could not install version 2.2.0 was because I had to uninstall 2.0.0 first. That's what it kept telling me, but I didn't read the entire message. Once I uninstalled 2.0.0, I was able to install 2.2.0 using the same product key from the original 2.0.0 CD (I do have a legit copy of NX2), and then it told me that the 2.2.2 update was available, so I installed it and now my D90 files are opening. I still wish this was a 64 bit program though.

Glad we could help (did we?) hikerboy47. Post some of your pictures on the photoaday thread. I'd like to see what you got :^)
