It's really a 7D review but they compare it side by side with the D300. Includes HD video samples from both cameras.

Yes Nikon have to really work on their next Video offering to stay in the game, Picture quality as you move from 12 to 18 MP is going to improve less than you think, I hope the next D300s replacement will be in the 14MP area and use what they learned from the D3s to maintain better high ISO performance.
Did you try out the 7D yet

No not yet. So what if the "D500" is full frame? That would really kick canon in the "huevos" wouldn't it? I know, I know, but hey I can dream can't I?

Anyway for the D4-500 to really kick it would have pro video, 14-15MP, greater ISO performance, The same D3s processor so full 14bit raw can be done at high FPS, and last thing 7FPS, 9-10FPS with grip attached. I still think there is a market for highend DX for a while yet. The same performance will always be cheaper in DX compared to FX

Well a FF D500 at around the 7D/D300S's price range. The more I think about it the more perplexing the current D700 versus D300S is, no? What's the difference between those two models? I mean I know the difference but what happens when the FF sensor price becomes cheaper? The D700 is a D300 body with a FF sensor in it right? And there both a D100 series camera aren't they?
Shouldn't a DX camera be in a different series? Hmm?
D1 series is FF from here on out
D100 series has both DX and FF
DXX is consumer DX
DXXXX is entry level DXSo what if Nikon changes it's nomenclature to this
D1 PRO FF
D100 "prosumer" FF
DXX "prosumer" DX
DXXXX entry level DXSo the D300 replacement will actually be called the D10 and the D700 replacement is now the D500. I think I like that :^)

Come to think of it, that would make some sense, and have Canon ever made a mess of there model numbering/naming, really XT, XS, XSi, T1i etc and 350 etc numbering(1000 for the XS)

There's worse with the Canon- it could be called the Kiss in Asian markets.

I read Gizmodo everyday and I wouldn't trust any of those idiots to review something.

did i miss the part where they labeled which picture was from which camera??

Canon is just retarded as they market in the US with different nomenclature. These rebels aren't called that elsewhere. For example the Rebel XTi is something like 400D elsewhere.bmxdad said:

I can see a D10 in the near future. I think Nikon has been hinting at this for a while. Look at the names of the battery grips, they go with at least one camera model; MB-D200, MB-D80 (which the D90 also uses). But then the D300/300s and D700 use an MB-D10? I can truly see a future model being a Nikon D10 down the road at some point and using the batter grip that was out way ahead of it.

Gentoo, like you said, it would be nice if they streamlined the battery grips so you don't need to throw them out when you upgrade, say 2 or 3 generations ahead.
Then again, batteries would need to change, so I'm not sure how they'd implement that too.

Pher, I didn't link to their review because of their "de facto" conclusion, just to give an idea of how someone "without strong photo skills" would use these two cameras side-by-side. Interesting either way no? Alpha maybe you could do the same? A side-by-side same scene camera death match.
Kellen they did list the samples in a very stupid order. The D300S photos are all first THEN they list all of the 7D pictures. They should of done one D300S then one 7D photo, but like Pher says it's Gizmodo....:^)
I would really like to see a "D10" replace the D300S and a "D500" replace the D700. The only problem is that there are rumors that the D500 will be DX and announced sometime next year. Perhaps as soon as Feb2010, but we'll see.

I don't think there will be D500 next year (2010). Most likely Nikon will use D400 instead of D500. One improvement on this D300s replacement is resolution, may be 18 MP.
