@coastalcon - very nice and sharp, I'll take you word on the Bobolink, I'd have to look it up, not being a "birder".

@Bland, thanks for the kind words. This shot and the rest were taken from my seat on the center aisle 13 rows back, so I was really forced in to using the 70-300.

I look at everything posted here and am a lttle reluctant at times to post my work as I somtimes feel it is not up to the same quality as others.

It was a great show and while I didn't have the opportunity to meet them, but they really look and sounded like they were enjoying themselves.

In the Group Portraits thread, I said to tcole that I'd post a B&W shot I took to illustrate something, and this is it:

    Uncle Mike

I think its a great portrait of this man and at full size, is an imposing image, certainly good enough for PAD.

So I skipped my "chronological order OR immediately important" processing norm and tried out some D800 shots from Tuesday. Surprisingly, my computer was able to handle them in Lightroom 4! This shot was taken in the basement of some ruined building at Baldpate Mountain, lit by the doorway (facing the sun) and a couple windows to my left.

Always great shots on PAD. Here is what I call an architectural "snapshot" using a 5 - 10 second exposure so as to eliminate the "walkers"....this was not a commercial shot... The Dearborn Inn was built by Henry Ford in 1931 and was the elegant hotel for visitors to Ford Motor Company.

    Absolutely phantastic shot Msmoto!!!!

@El_Pick - is that D800 or D700 in the shot too?

Planning a trip to Iceland in January, just for 5 days or a week and forum search threw up some of your shots - looks like you had some no so great weather! Under the right weather conditions the country looks like a landscapers dream, so I'm keeping everything crossed.

    Forgot my actual picture.

Wild Waterfalls at Doubtful Sound, a large fiord on New Zealand's West Coast.

I hate that I have no reference points for scale in so many of my pictures, but when you're in areas like this that are totally uninhabited wildernesses, it's hard. This is taken from a boat out in the fiord and the mountain to the left rises nearly 1300m from the sea and the one further away on the right rises 910m, if you can picture that. The sharp cliffs lining the fiord are covered in thundering waterfalls like this.

    It's an awesome, awesome place.

Neither, my F5 which will show up in another shot tomorrow. Had ISO 50 film in that, so it was of limited use.

Enjoy Iceland! The weather there was really unpredictable. On my hike to Glymur we had rain, clouds, overcast, snow, and sun. Not in that order, and some of those conditions appeared multiple times. Look forward to seeing what you get with the limited / low sunlight there in the winter. Not sure what your travel plan is, but I picked up this atlas before heading over. I had to get it shipped from Iceland since who the heck gets an atlas of that country, but it was invaluable for me driving around the country. The roads and everything along them is really well marked, and it's nice to have names readily available for virtually any place you come across.

Ferry departure in Plattsburg, NY. I took this picture on the moving ferry. The 14-24mm (@17mm) was wide open at 2.8. I dared to handhold the shot at 1/45s, which resulted in an ISO3200. Maybe I should have used a shorter exposure and crank the D700 all the way to 6400, but that is water under the br... ehh, ferry. I did not process the picture for white balance - it came out this way and I felt it really captured the moment.

@ Meinrad... I like the shot...no need to go to shorter time...looks pretty sharp as it is. Color, as you state, exactly captures the feeling at the moment...

Weather was really crappy again, All I could find was Eagle bait but no Eagles. Besides how can any self respecting flickr member not have a squirrel picture?

msmoto: I can see the advantage of a pc lens from your shots. It would be nice to be able to get your lines straight by using tilt and shift if the lens gave you all the auto features of normal AF lenses and just added the extra feature of tilt and shift. But I understand it does not work the same as a normal AF lens and just add tilt and shift. Thus, it adds a lot of extra steps and hasle to each photograph. Do you find that to be true? Hopefully, the 24mm Samyang TS version will be nearly equal quality for nearly half the price of the Nikon and make pc lens shooting avaialble to more of us.

Really nice set of images, reflecting diversity in styles, compositions and techniques. Coastal, I know how difficult it can be to photograph something as simple as a squirrel, they move so fast focusing is a challenge.
Meinrad, really nice ferry scene, reflects a mood of adventure.
Starr, I wish I was eating that hamburger!
Postman, with its spectacular scenery, New Zealand can be a challenge to photograph.
Regulator, what a building! where is that? Dramatic capture.
El_pick, great exposure in a difficult situation.

Thanks, everyone for the nice compliments.

@Msmoto: you really put that PC lens to good use; great job again! Personally, I am a bit of an ultrawide junkie. If there will ever be a 16mm PC (or something in that neighborhood), I will buy it...
@coastalconn: you do not need birds to deliver great work, squirrels seem to suffice.
@yetibuddah: sometimes, I tell myself "if I had great scenery, I could do great shots". Then, when I get there (and come home with my own shots), I notice the difference between my own landscape shots and the quality you deliver. This is just an outstanding capture!
