Do you own stock in that bar Willis? :^) Alphanikonrex can't go in there. I was thinking we could just meet at a Diary Queen near UT campus or something :^)

BTW why does this have to such a large meeting, what if there was some kind of Photo event, trade show that was going on, and some NR's were going there, maybe that could be a place to meet

Golf007sd sent a PM about this. He suggested having something like a First Annual NR Meeting or maybe meetings on different continents. How many people are interested in something like this?

The idea is a nice one Jonny, but speaking for myself, I would struggle to find the time and money to go traveling. Things being as they are we haven't had a family holiday this year, I think Mrs SkintBrit would smell a rat if I found the means to go "out with the boys". I'm sure everyone is not in the same position. Here's another suggestion that would have no cost and might be fun, you know we have the 'photo a day' thread.......why not make it a competition between countries or regions? Everyone in a region can post for their area, and Admin or mods could mention who the monthly winners were, and award a coveted NR T-shirt to the aggregate annual winners? Might encourage a bit of commaradery between members and encourage us to get out there and use our talents. What do you think?

Dear NR members,
I'm glad that most of you find this idea worth exploring. With that said, I think it would be fun to do a "test run" of such an event and have one either on the west coast and/or east cost. For those of you that live overseas, one could do the same thing as well. We could start a "sticky" post that states, such as: "First West Cost NR Members Meeting" and have those interested in meeting put their names on the list stating their intention to attend. Once the list gets to about 15 or more (picking numbers out of the air here) then one individual would take on the responsibility in coordinating the event.
Given that I live in Souther California, I would be more than happy to nominate myself as one of the coordinators for the west cost...kind of like a team leader so to say. The duties of the coordinator would be: to set a date, duration and location that is agreeable to those willing to attend. The event could also be recorded, so other can see what took place; get feed back and hopefully a model could be built from it so that maybe a "Annual National NR" gather could take place in the near future for us all. I/We could workout with regional Nikon Rep to have guest speakers attend, maybe even get some sponsors (local or regional) in helping with the cost of holding a meeting at some hotel and such. Forgive me but I like to "think big" and when I have a passion for something I like to make it worth my time and those that are involved/attending.
Anyhow, hopefully this idea will bear fruit for us all....and the first round of drinks are on me.
Cheers to you all :D

It would be interesting to know how many members are over here in France !

I'm from the Twin Cities in Minnesota and would be interested in getting together with like minded people. I'll be out of the country until middle of next year but I'm in then.

It's a nice idea, but the question is where, when and why so much :) For all of You who live in US, please remember this is an international forum with a lot of ppl from Europe and Asia, so please don't limit Yourself - this are great regions and great to explore.
As for me personally, any part of Asia, Europe or North America is fine as long as I get to know the date at least 4-6 months in advance.
The other thing I was considering was organizing photo expeditions to some photographic locations, i.e. Africa, India, Nepal, Patagonia, Alaska. From my own experience I know that it's far more cheaper to go there alone than with a tourist office - at least 40% off than this what You will pay in travel agency. If someone is interested I could think about photo expedition to India, Nepal, Thailand - and of course Europe, especially the central and eastern part.Posted 1 year ago # -

APUG - Analog Photography user group, has a pretty simple system. There are just different groups and some one will post a suggested get together. All very informal.

GOLF IS BUYING DRINKS..........EVERYONE TO HIS BAR!!!!!! Bring your cameras.
ok I'm just kidding, mostly. This is one of those things that seems like a good idea but the amount of legwork is huge. I think I nice starter would be if someone make a new post named something like your location. We could have it Spread into countries by admin if they would be willing and then we as posters could put something easy and quick to read like
oregon, portland
that way people in the united states could look for people in their state first and then see how many people we had. Maybe oregon and washington could get together and meet in portland or seattle depending on who had more people.
I mean thats just the united states idea for my side. Im sure that our readers from other countries could do something similar.I mean if we only had 5-10 people from this area I would still be willing to drive over to seattle or meet in portland for a beer and conversation. Even if just to see what everyone has to say. It would be a good time. Plus as a added bonus we most likely all have cameras so I'm sure that we won't have a lack of photos.
~Cheers

It would be interesting to have a map with pins in it representing the NR members, that way if any of us were going traveling, we could PM the members that we would be passing. I think that would be a good step towards informal meetings. If any of us meet up, just remember to let the rest of us know how you got on.

Im always up for meeting new people in the industry and will most likely buy the first round=) Hope to talk to some of you soon if this really picks up.

Brilliant idea SkinBrit. We've got plenty of room here in Vermont and no shortage of good scenery. I don't think Mrs. Geek would be too psyched if all of you stayed with us though.
Seriously, can anyone build a "map app"? Many of us likely live in pretty close proximity; that might be a useful thing to know.Posted 1 year ago # -
A map or something would help. I am in Indianapolis, but could travel to any of the big cities nearby (Chicago, St. Louis, Cincinnati).

Admin, is there any way of producing a map of NR members? Something where you hover your mouse over and it comes up with the forum ID. If nothing else comes if it, i'd be interested to see how many countries have NR members. I think you have all of our cities when we joined up, and it would also help in deciding the best (most central) location for any future meet. I'd be happy to help with inputing the data if necessary.

I like the idea put forth by AdamZ about a photo expedition. With a local and willing NR member to help organize things, it can be done much cheaper than with an agency or other firm. I have been to Namibia many times; it is a great place for landscape, animals and people. There are even a couple of old ghost towns for those that are interested in old architecture.

Relighting this thread.... on PAD some mention was made of an NRF members meeting. So, looking the map....the highest concentration is in the USA. And it looks like TTJ is in the middle in Omaha.... sure hope he is reading this and has a lot of rooms for us all ..:-).
But, if there are folks who are interested, this may be the best thread to look at the ideas. Colorado Springs, Colorado, offers the opportunity to get into the Rocky Mountains....Colorado has 54 peaks higher than 14,000 feet. And, it is only three days away in my motorhome....

as for me, I need app 3-4 months notice in order to be able to come - and honestly east coast sounds better to me (NYC, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami) though Colorado is also a good idea with reasonably priced accommodation.

Chicago is a stunning city. A fantastic art museum, aquarium, buildings, and for those who do...night spots. And, rates for hotels are about 50% less than New York City. Atlanta is even less expensive and about as close as anything. Lots to do in Atlanta...

Well I am up for expeditions--see note from several months ago a few messages above. I like landscapes as many know. Am willing to facilitate get togethers around Yellowstone/Tetons/Glacier. May and October are great times.
