Would you be interested in a monthly photo-challenge

In our local Camera Club we have a monthly Photo-Challenge, the challenges are listed a year at the time. So for 2010 we will now figure out the next 12 challenges for each month of the year. Some of them are following: Rustic, IR, texture, time exposure, etc
They can be hard to decide on, and if done on NR I think the WE could all submit ideas for challenges and Admin, Moderators will then pick 12 for next year

So in the Challenge we submit one picture for each month. Maybe we could figure out some way to vote on each month's picture also

I like it.

We could have one submission per member, and have a list of members on a polldaddy thingamajiggy for the voting. The categories sound fun too. Maybe we should have it the photo had to be taken in that month? It'll keep us shooting.

How about some prizes?

I don't think there are enough "active" members to do something like this yet. Who would judge? Mods?

Sure, why not. But in that case, we'll have to find an anonymous way to submit photos to avoid bias. They'll get fed up with you choosing my photo every time Niko ;^)

I don't think that it will work ... bear in mind that those on the jury cannot themselves participate which will leave only a couple of participants. Though lets see how many people respond to this thread.

I would like to see one, but doubt that I would post in it. That A B C image thread that I started was just a joke. Unfortunately I only have D images :)

OK, In my camera club we don't judge the pictures very seriously, but we all submit anonymously a score that gives points based on: Understanding the Challenge, Impact of Photo, and Photo-Graphic Technique

Also Admin and Mod were to choose the 12 photo challenges for the year, and could certainly participate

Maybe the first year we could have no judging, and just do it for fun

No need to have prizes. The honour to have been judged by your peers as having done a good job should be enough. a simple vote should be enough. no need to make the photos anonymous. Although only a few are vocal on this forum. There could be many who will vote.

Taken within the month is good but we are a global group so the theme of "winter" wont work unless the time frame is relaxed to a year?

Back to comparison of my Photo-club. The 12 challenges are posted before the start of the year, And you can enter pictures that are taken up to a year before, here in Alberta we have 6 months of winter so some shots have to be taken at a different time of the year,
This would allow people from different parts of the world a chance for winter, fall, spring etc to be done. Not all challenges will appeal to all, but they are fun to try, you know try something new, like the other thread on Lomography

I think this is an awesome idea, and it might help some of us push ourselves a bit further with our creativity.
secondly, the voting system being anonymous would be good, as so no one would need to feel any grudges against anyone (not saying that they would), and if your pictures gets a bad rating, perhaps it will inspire you to push yourself even further, with your next shot?.

That is how we vote in our club, and yes you swallow your pride and try to do better next time. AND we should all be able to admire the fact that others posters have done a great job with their picture

I don't think we need 100+ entries per month for this to work. I think if one month had only 10 entries with the best picture from each poster covering a certain topic it would be great. We are app 40 members in our club and sometimes we have more than 30 entries other months not that many

What need to be done is that key players on NR incl mods and Admin have to want to be part of this and this will work and be fun to be involved in.

You know when you go into forums on DpReview their photo challenge is shown on top, maybe that could be done here also
