My only concern about video \ live view is that its much easier to implement on a CMOS chip. I don't want CCD development to stop because Cannon\Nikon are in war over video. According to the the tech people, CCD is theoretically the superior tech for still image capture (recent developments non-withstanding).

I beginng to understand your guys. All you want is the best possible DSLR and I undestand that. Video will not hurt anything and it only has to be in a few models...high and low end. Look how crappy video looks on almost anything that is half way affordable. This is break thru. Correct. They dont have to do anything. We didnt have to go to the moon either.

Oh well...I guess Video in the D700, D800 S or X or whatever is not going to happen anytime soon. I got the money burning a hole in my pocket and will go Canon if I dont hear anything that has a reasonable chance of being true regarding a update within a month or so.

"within a month or so" nope not going to happen. Just get a 5DmkII and start making movies already. I've heard the 7D isn't a good "indie film" camera despite the 1080 HD. Or what about the Pany GH1? I know some guys using it for commercials and they really like it.

According to a very reliable source, this year there will be no Nikon D700s or Nikon D700x.
What Nikon plans to do is to launch totally new D800 to replace the existing D700.
There are several features available in Nikon D800:

    1) Video mode 1080p video recording (full HD)
    2) High resolution 24.5 MP.
    3) High frame rate: 7 fps without battery grip (similar to D300s)
    4) 51-area Nikon Multi-CAM 3500FX (same technology as D3X)

Basically Nikon D800 will compete head to head against Canon's EOS 5D MkII.
Most likely Nikon will launch the brand new D800 before Christmas end of this year.

artttt, we live in the same world....

Wanting good video but obviously having a preference for Nikon's body...

If only the 1D Mark IV was FF I'd be thinking of pre ordering right now... Too bad I'm not into telephotos because this 1D Mark IV is going to be an awesome camera. Low light performance, 1080p with full control and that 1.3 crop to make sure that you get 260mm with your 70-200... Considering how popular telephoto is in film making these days, this camera will be very in demand... But even if was about to spend all that money now, I can't afford to lose my UWA... I want my 16-35 to be a 14-28 so if it's a 21-46, I'm gonna explode...

Alan Hyatt If that D800 is true, I will preorder, that's exactly what I'm waiting for... I guess I'd prefer a bit less than 24mp for the low light but Considering how the D3x looks in low light (more noise but also more details), this would be neat... However I doubt that the camera would do 7fps... more like 2-3 However, I'd like it if they could make a 12mpx mode with better frame rate... I'd love a 6mpx mode with like 14fps.

And before christmas end of this year would be great timing for me.

In my opinion no point for Nikon to launch either D700s (just addition video recording) or D700x (just increase to higher resolution without new sensor). The most important, Nikon D800 must take back the market share from Canon when they came out with super value & super excellent full frame 5D MkII.
Hopefully D800 is true... then it would be awesome!
This is what Nikon fan like you & me are waiting for it!

jbl Oh yeah, we are in the same place, and alan, hope your source is right. Any chance we will get a leak before hand, or even Nikon letting something out so people dont buy a Canon before x-mas? I like the way Canon did it with the 5d2. No one could buy until they got the full info but they let it out little by little as they finished the camera, partial photos etc. right on their own site SMART. Soap...get a life.

I started the thread and I guess because Im not as up to date on what you are talking about...THE WORD (spammer) is new to me. Now its 7x. Are you going to be ok? I hope so, I wouldnt want to cause any pain to such a sensitive soul.
Here is my reason for posting at all. Im just hoping Nikon reads some of this so they know there are people who want what I want. People who are ready and willing to spend 5,000-10,000 grand on camera and lenses now and who are not going to wait much longer. I may even go for more if I can rap my mind around the RED situation. If I do, I may spend 30,000 plus plus plus over the next 10 years and I will stay with the manufacturer I go with next. Obviously, I want a Nikon so I can have it all and stay around 7 to 10k for now but Im not waiting until mid 2010, thats for sure. I live around the corner from one of the busiest high end camera stores you have ever seen...3 deep at the counter with 7 techs...not seen often in the new web world. These people are top notch on both sides of the counter and love what they do. Nikon needing to answer to the 5DM2 which was snickerd at, (who cares attitude) a few months ago is now being talked about on a regular bases, even by the owners now.

Arttt just buy a RED One camera and start making movies already. I have a feeling that no matter what Nikon brings to the table against canon's HD video, your not going to be happy :^(

Yeah I thought that alan was messing with us with that february 2nd rumor.. and a 5th camera in 2009? srsly?

but now its on nikon rumors.

I still believe it won't be before 2010...

(also, lol 24.5mpx with 7fps.. that makes it even less probable considering the speed of the D3x and the D700)

About the red one, yes good idea.. but can he afford it? You want at least a Scarlet S35 (crop sensor but cool) or FF35 (much more expensive) and the lenses... and battery, and ssd, and the handle, the screen.. ouch man.. such a system is at least 40 000$ and it's not even out yet.

the 3000-4000$ red kit is as good as a camcorder to me...2/3" sensor with fixed 8x zoom? not worth it. Also, not out yet.

the Red one is out but the body costs 17 500$ and they sell a 16gb CF card for 500$... The prime set is very sexy... 19 0000$ and lacks wide angles (you get 25, 35, 50, 85, 100) (the red one has a crop factor as well)

So yeah if you can afford it, go it's awesome...

OK, and when Canon releases the 5D MarkIII, and it turns out to be a 1D MarkIII revisited, you'll find comfort knowing one thing. All of us at Nikon Rumors told you so.

Yeah, he's going to have a fun time mucking around with the autofocus (or, in the words of Fake Chuck Westfall, Aut' O Focus) system. He'll be back in a few months, when the D800 is announced.

Actually he's not missed, hope he stays in Canon land, he's properly over there now telling how everyone in NR land are a bunch of mo#####

BTW I am not even sure he would know if his pictures are out of focus
