    Anyone curious about this camera?

I kind of am interested in it, but then again there are too few buttons on the back of it- I'm not sure if that would ultimately affect handling.

Also, it runs Android 2.3, Gingerbread and that is positively ancient.

They couldn't put Ice Cream Sandwich on it? Seriously?

    Thom Hogan says:
"One of the things I've been trying to figure out is why they're using version 2.3.3 of Android. As it turns out, the current 4.x versions require OpenGL and a GPU. I suspect there isn't a GPU in the S800C (that'll be one of the questions I'll be asking Nikon at Photokina). If so, that would mean version 2.3.3 is it."

But that's the thing- if it's in development so long that it uses Gingerbread, what's the point? I'd rather it use something newer and more "future proof".

I would say it might be dead on arrival.

I think it is intended to be a highly portable platform that is able to get images on the web fast, and at a higher quality than a phone. It's a niche, but for now it fills the niche better than anything else I'm aware of. At $350 it may be easy for some to justify... Better IQ than a phone and you can use your phone as a WiFi hotspot. While it may have an old OS, it may not need more for its target use.

It might be more popular than one might initially guess.
