These are Great-Tailed Grackles, two males doing the same thing as your Boat-Tailed Grackles.
Ok now back to PAD :)

wind: I like the crepuscular rays there. Good composition.
hal: we can only look on in jealousy.
pete: that's more like our weather. Times like these I consider moving to S Florida ;-)
shade: can birds look grumpy? because that one does.
aprille: nice portraits. I like the mood of the non-self-portrait.
regulator: love it like all I've seen from you so far.
phil: I like the originals.
Hi, I'm new here. Lots of great pics from everyone! Here's my first post:
Welcome to the forum, s_l. Hopefully we see more of your photos around here.
I think you may have surprised that Turkey Vulture. Just to be safe, I would keep an eye to the sky...he may be lurking overhead. Nice shot :)
Thanks PBrigido
Gentoo, I didn't mean to slight you by not mentioning your shots; I meant to and just forgot. I even went to find out how fast you were shooting. 1/4000? how often do you have to do that?

Jonny no worries. I shoot in A mode so it often selects very high shutter speeds. Most birders prefer to shoot at high shutter speeds because many birds move unpredictably. I am also shooting hand held without VR so the higher speeds help either way.
Truthangeier? That's funny...
My parents actually have wedding glasses that have vultures engraved with 'Geier' above.
Regulator75: wow, awesome, beautiful shot!
bmxdad: nice pictures!
jonnyapple: thanks :)
bmxdad: loving the photo of the pine needles. Not sure what it is...the soft lighting, the bokeh, the lighting, or maybe just the thought of winter and snow lol. Christmas postcard material!
Contrast that with a minor dust storm we're having in Sydney (brown hazy skies at the moment) lol.
nice shot regulator - I really enjoy the DOF on Your picture
pete - I really like the first one with needles, nice composition
bland - nice capture, You could use a little slower shutter speed to make the propeller less visible
bmxdad- those are lovely...I really like the first.
bland- very cool! I would have thought you shot it from the air.
regulator- congrats! Very nice contrast and dof.

The picture is a little misleading, I'm actually shooting from the ground.

They all look very serous so it must be important ...
I took this shot back in April. Didn't think it turned out that great so I never did anything with it. After looking at it today, I decided that it's useful. This species is endangered in Southern California:

Bell's Vireo
Gentoo: I like the shallow DOF play of branches in your picture
Thanks for comments on my picture. funny thing is that I have been in these heavy arguments about the need for AF on these Zeiss lenses and I have actually shot most of my pictures in MF lately. Maybe I should try one of them MF Zeiss after all, we don't sell them where I work, which one should I get first
Fun to see the Photo-a-day grow bigger all the time
Pete
I've been going back through my sunset photos recently and putting them on Flickr. Here is another one of my favorites.
