Hi, I have been a member for a while and posted a few times but never introduced myself properly so here goes: My name is Rich (Richard) I live in the UK. I am nearly 59 years old and retired. I am a mechanical engineer and worked as an operator in a Nuclear Power station. I love science and history but my passion in life is photography. I have pictures of me at approximately 4 years old with a camera in my hand; I can never remember a time without one. All through the 60's, 70's 80's and 90's I had mostly Canon and a Bronica SQA. I had a darkroom and small studio and took occasional weddings for work mates. With the digital age I have had a few compacts and then a Nikon D70 which I can honestly say changed my life.... how I wish I had had Nikon before. I now have a D300 and variety of lenses.
I took a course in Photoshop which lasted 6 years and teach it part time now.
Sorry this is so long... Rich.
PS I really enjoy this site and forum, it is way ahead of any others and the people here are great especially the humour.
Introduce yourself here

Hello from La-La Land!
Don't know why I never joined this forum before. Been a Nikon guy ever since my very first FM. Then, just last year, I rushed out and bought a D90 to make movies (I'm a cameraman). But, since it sucks at that, I started taking pictures again. Now, I've turned into a total gear whore, and am planning to shoot a whole new portfolio, filled with images of awesomely hot chicks. Next lens on my list: AF DC-Nikkor 105mm f/2.0D.
Here's my lifetime camera anthology:
Kodak Instamatic
Canon FTb
Nikon FM/FE
Mamiya RB67
Nikon FM2/FE2
Nikon 6006/6006 (twin bodies)
A bunch of shitty first- and second-generation digitals (Sony Mavica through Minolta Dimage 7hi)
Nikon D70: my first D-SLR.
Nikon D90: my second, and current D-SLR.Although I already own a pile of Nikkor MF and AF lenses, I'm actually rebuilding my lens inventory and have redesigned my "carry-around" lens bag to include only the following lenses, all of which, I acquired over just the last couple of weeks:
1. AF Nikkor 18mm f/2.8D (used)
2. AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G (new)
3. AF DC-Nikkor 105mm f/2.0D (pending)
4. AF VR Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED (refurb)Posted 2 years ago # -
Hello all,
My name is Vince from the U.S. My location changes from time to time, but I guess you can say I'm from GA. New to DSLRs' and I picked up my first camera a few weeks ago (Nikon D5000). So far I love it, and can't wait to get a little experience under my belt.

Hi all,
Richard here. Avid Nikon user and have been in many a fight with my mates who ALL use Canons. I'm completely surrounded by them!
Anyways, got me an F80 back in 2000 after a Coolpix sometime before that. Now using a D80 with plans for a D700 (S? X? or something...) in September... or whenever my new wife allows that kinda spend!
Just launched a new photography business in Perth at

or you can see a broader range of my shots here at Red Bubble:

Damn it's good to be among fellow Nikon users... for a change :)

Welcome, Richard, Vince, and studio460. Is it me or do we have a higher percentage of Australians on the forum than could be expected for a country of 22m? It's a good thing—don't get me wrong—but is it because Nikon is popular there or what?

Hello!
My name is Nina and I'm a Los Angeles based photographer and freelance designer. I am an avid Nikon shooter and cheerleader in a sea of Canon shooters (99% of my friends & colleagues). My first Nikon and dSLR was the D60 and I still shoot with it frequently. I've since upgraded to the D3s.
My website is http://loveandlemonade.com. I also have a site where I post only my Blackberry camera pics: http://worldinmypocket.tumblr.com
I'm happy to be here and I've been reading the blog for some time now...I don't know why it took me so long to join the forum...
Anyway, hello and I look forward to getting to know everybody. :)

But seriously, your question is an interesting one. I'm not sure how popular Nikon cameras are here compared to . . . to . . . those other ones (I can't think of any of their names at the moment). Maybe someone has some sort of stats on that sort of stuff.
I'd better go before the off-topic alarm goes off.
Cheers, Paul

While we're off-topic around here, I think my new user role is just right!

Might as well introduce myself, belatedly. Have shot on and off since I was a little kid, and am currently shooting with a Kodak PoS -- sorry, P&S -- while I wait for/save for the D90 replacement. I have a website -- blog, no photos -- at http://www.aslightdelay.com, which I haven't updated much because when I'm not job hunting, I'm taking pictures. :)

I'm Geoff from SoCal, and have been involved with DSLRs since the beginning of the year. Bought a D40 to get started in this field, and enjoy it. Several lenses and memory cards later and I'm getting ready to upgrade to another Nikon, keeping the D40 for my daughter who wants to join me in this insanity.

Good luck, Geoff. My dad got me started and we've had lots of fun with it. He's not quite as crazy about gear as I am, though. ;-)

Hello all,
I've been on this forum for a bit, but never saw this tread before. My name is Robert, and I have always had an interest in photography since a little kid. It wasn't untill a few years ago that I got to talking to one of the hired pro photographers at the Denver Grand Prix and decided to take his recommendation and get a entry level D70S. I now have increased my arsenal and shoot with a F5 and D700.
Great forum, and some great people reside here. I have learned alot from some of you, and been inspired by all.Posted 2 years ago # -
Welcome Rob, enjoy your stay!

I'm Neil, and live in Atlanta for now. Just transitioning from the world of Canon P&S (S90, SD880) to Nikon DSLR (D7000) after spending way too much time on Ken Rockwell's site. I have a toddler at home, and that has been my main motivator to learn to take better pictures.

Hey guys. My name is Rich and I'm from NJ (hold your applause) I've been reading all of your posts and replies daily for the last 4 months and will finally be getting my first DSLR which will be a D7000 body.
I'm a bass player who has always been into photography since I was a little kid as my grandfather was a wedding photographer for decades. I also found out that had he not gotten ripped off when selling all of his gear before he died, I would have most likely inherited it all. It was all high end gear from some little company called Hasselblad ;-) Oh well. All digital for me.
I plan to make photography a big part of my life along with my music. Thank you again for all the daily help. I have passed the NR word on.

Hello!
I used this site a lot when shopping for my first DSLR back in July because of the community and timely information.
I had a Nikon Coolpix 5700 until it died. After going without a camera for a while I wanted to step up to something new and learn as much as I could about photography. I bought a D300s and started a learning/photo blog at http://www.bugnoir.com, and I'm slowly building up a proper portfolio.
I mostly shoot around Toronto, Canada; mostly macro, landscape and pet portraiture, avoiding people portraiture until I know more. I took a three week photo-centric trip to the maritimes this summer between contracts and had a blast.
I usually contribute to the photo-a-day thread but my new contract is at a start-up and I've been finding it difficult to find time to shoot. I'm building a mini-studio for the winter months and hope to get out shooting again in the spring/summer.
Looking forward to learning more from the community here, you people are awesome.
