    Anyone purchase any of the off brand battery pack grips for the D5000? Are they any good?

    If You can, go for Alpha brand, I have one of theirs battery grip (for d90) and it works flawlessly - it looks like THIS

    Thanks! From the few reviews that I have found the Alpha one seems to be the only one that the shutter button really works on.

    The grip uses a cable to connect the grip to the camera as per this picture, This will allow you to shot with the shutter located on the grip

    Yeah that's pretty clumsy looking. I'd only want to put a grip on say a D3000 for the extra... well grip when using larger lenses.
