Most post on NR is done in a civilized way, and not done to get into a war, but then we have these Trolls, etc
So should NR show us posting rules like on DpReview when we are going to post. Also on DpReview we can complain about a certain post etc
So what do you think, should we allow someone to continue posting something that is clearly going to stir up a posting war with insults etc

I would think so, even tho the regular users can stay civilized, that's not really protecting us from all the other buttholes out there.
Ive never liked insults on forums, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but once personal attacking starts, i think the joy of using a forum goes away quite rapidly.
YES, there should be some kind of control - maybe sth like "mute" button and warnings - with icons below name - 3 warnings and You are banned for some period of time
Still having a list of rules should be posted. Post get deleted/locked and you don't know why? Well except for the particular thread bmxdad is referring to. I think we all understand why that one's going away.

Absolutly yes.
Everyone here shares a common interest, and we seek advice from one another for equipment purchases, to photo critiques, and when some trolls begin taking personal attacks, the trust and camaraderie we all share begins to breakdown.
IMHO it isn't "taken care of" until it is deleted. There is nothing of value in there. Arguments against trolls can not be won. Points can only be lost, not gained.
Excellent suggestion bmxdad. As the NR forums grow over time, there will unfortunately be an increase in the number of people who may detract from the useful benefits it provides.
Other than the rare fool, I've found everyone here very civil and constructive, with the occasion for humor. I'd rather ignore that fool than change things.
A forum is only as good as the people who contribute to it. However I do think a listing of basic forum rules should be posted. On all of the other forums I post to, they all have rules and moderators justify their actions against others by referring to the rule that was broken/ignored.
I would opt for one more moderator located either in USA or Canada, so we could have a 24h coverage also some additional rights for moderators - banning and account deleting.
As for the rest, I still believe this is one of the most civilized forums.
As for deleting that entire topic... well let's vote.
I'm in for creating rules as this would make our life easier.
I vote trash it. soap is right, the bad heavily outweights the good that came from it.
I say keep "the offending post" as is (locked) to remind us of how quickly things can fall apart. I think there should be another moderator on this side of the world too. Actually there is a second mod but I've never seen him post anything. It's a relatively small forum but adamz can't be given all the responsibilities to keep watch 24hr/7days a week. That's not fair to him.
Keep the topic as a lesson.
@Adamz, Secondly, you suggest mod abilities to ban/acc deleting.
a ban can always be lifted, i think however, if the mod feels that strongly that a user has gone past the rules, it should be forwarded to the admin for deletion, i don't believe in individual decisions on something as big as acc. deletion, but that's just me.
Akatsuki - in some cases this would be the easiest way if we (mods) don't have the tools needed to ban, especially when someone is posting fake advertisements
The TexasPhotoForum has lots of moderators and they do a very good job of catching spam and getting rid of trolls and their post. I've rarely ever seen a problem on that site. They also have a clear list of forum rules posted.
Well there was the one guy who kept posting naked pictures of himself in the Human Form threads. They really couldn't do anything even though everybody agreed it seemed as though he was only posting the "non creative", "snap shot" pictures of himself and his "wang" merely for attention! He wasn't actually breaking any of the rules. That thread made me laugh for days.
@Adamz, im all in for mods being able to ban, i was just pointing out that account deletion might be a good idea if it was dual-user decided.
Sometimes, even you Adamz (your just an example, no offense at all) might get so annoyed with a user that delete button gets very tempting, ive seen this before.
That was just an example, i don't even know you that well but i reckon you aren't one of those people who would do such a nasty thing :).
Bottom line was maybe the moderators should consult each other before deleting a user then perhaps?, to make sure the right decision is made.
I am all for keeping the post as a lesson. As for moderator rights, they should have the right to suspend accounts, but not terminate until a review by the admin is made.
Actually the TexasPhotoForum also has an "offense structure". It gives clear reason why a moderator would have justification to ban a member. It wouldn't be just because the mod doesn't like you or what you said. It's a 3 strikes and your out kind of a thing.

I just read the TexasPhotoForum rules which seem quite logical, and common sense, but as we have experienced, common sense is not so common. I think replicating their methods are fine, and quite warranted as this forum grows.
It's just adamz who's in Poland, right? And another guy who's in the US but he's never actually posted anything in like 4 months or something like that.
I'll be a moderator! Then I can take care of a few things here and there... ;^)
