I just came back from photo exhibition and I managed to grab my hand on the new D3s.... and it's really amazing. Fully usable iso up to 6400 straight from camera, 12800 with a little bit PP. Hi3 mode usable for artistic use only :) - looks great in B&W - the grain is awesome that way.

I've also managed to play with the new Sony a850 and... well it fits nicely in my hand but it's soooooo slow with the new 70-400/5.6 - definitely it's not a low budget way to go for FF (at least for those of us who need fast AF).

I've also had a little chat with Nikon representative and he said that it's unlikely to see a new d700x by the end of week, although he didn't said anything about d800. Also no long range lenses to be released by the end of this year. However, he said that Nikon is realizing the need for new 400/4 lens and replacements for 80-400 (more likely this range rather than 100-500/5.6) and 300/4 with VR.
As for the availability d3s and new 70-200/2.8 should be in stores by the end of November.

Hi Adamz: At work we talk Camera Reps all the time and they are very careful about what they tell you, and maybe they are also left in the dark. I remember talking to my Nikon Rep a few months before the D3 release and he assured me that Nikon had no plans to move into the FX area, to many lenses were not suitable for FX etc. We all know what happened right

But man is that D3s going to be one great sports/events camera. I don't get the Sony thing, I would in no way get that A850, yes if you build a system with similar lenses you would have saved 5 - 600 dollars. But in the long run Nikon will get to the Same MP and have video, you would also have to update your Sony next year if video is needed

Indeed Pete, Nikon reps never tell You the whole truth :) but sometimes You can read between the lines from this what they say.

as for the Sony part, I wrote about it as some of us were considering to switch to sony when the new a850 was released

I went to the photoplus expo today, and tried out the D3S. I had to go back a few times throughout the day and try it again and again. It was that good. The high iso was unbelievable.

Not surprised that you guys like it so much.

Nikon hasn't really done anything wrong with their cameras. The only fault I see is that they're updating their lenses way too slowly, but since I'm no pro, it's not like I need new lenses immediately anyway.
