Will i need a slim B W uv filter to avoid vignetting on the 35mm 1.4 lens and the 24-70 2.8, thanks

as far as i'm aware, uv filters dont vignette as they are clear.
you might look at nikon nc filters too, if all you want is lens protection.
or you could do like me and run around naked.

btw, good choice of lens. it (the 35) doesnt seem to get much respect around here as everyone seems to think they would rather have the 24 1.4.

its not the filter glass that causes the vignetting, rather its the distance the filter frame sticks out from the lens itself, thats why there are slim versions, it becomes more critical if you are stacking filters or on wide angle lenses, i am using them naked atm, putting the lens cap on is solid protection, thanks for the tip re nikon filters.

Yes Gareth It is a really great lens, so sharp, possibly a bit more useful for portraits, voted best wedding lens, cheers.

And, if one uses a thin filter on wide lenses, generally they will not vignette. But this is something which is critical when getting down into the focal lengths below 20mm.....almost all the filters will tend tp vignette on say a 16-35mm at 16mm.
